Round 24 AFL Tips 2024

Betting Tip: Melbourne by 8

Ridiculous that the AFL only a few weeks ago thought that this game would deserve the prime time slot. Sure, Collingwood has a had an epic run home winning two out of three games that no one thought they would win (almost three) - but come on, that much wishful thinking is absurd.

Anywho, politics aside, I think the Pies will get done this week. If they still had a chance for finals then I think it would go the other way, but I think when they drop off, they drop off.

Melbourne on the other hand, seem to fight for their last breath. And with all the commotion going on at the minute, culture issues, Trac and Neal-Bullen wanting out - I think the Dees will dig deep and try and show there is some appeal to the red and the blue.

Melbourne to Win (1-39) 2.70 at Neds

Betting Tip: Geelong by 52

Tipping this to be an absolute snooze fest, but to give Geelong supports some false hope before they go out in straight sets.

West Coasts short lived fun form died along with Harley Reid's Rising Star hopes, which ironically will likely be given to the Temu version of him at Geelong, in Oliver Dempsey. Side note, Dempsey does the flash things Reid does, but without the ferocity and dog.

Travelling all the way to Geelong, West Coast will get pumped by the Cats and will do their best work at Lambys afterwards.

Betting Tip: Gold Coast by 8

An interesting game to be had here. Should by all rights be an absolute snooze fest, and I can see Gold Coast giving them a touch up with Touk Miller on his second game back, and Lukosius wanting to show off some form to potential suiters.

However, besides the first quarter last week Richmond showed some serious ticker. With half the team also wanting an exit and wanting to show off their form, along with Gold Coasts' terrible away record, they may steal a late one.

Doubtful, but I think it will be a close, but average, game.

Betting Tip: Hawthorn by 23

The Hawks are about to waltz into the finals with this game, after a tremendous come back from the start of the year. They haven't been taking any game easy this year, and have more fun demolishing a side than just winning, so they won't give North an inch.

The tough young North lads short lived form also disappeared rather quickly this year, however, I think they will give the young Hawks team a scare. When the master versed the apprentice back in April, Hawks game them a touch up. But that was a month before Kangaroos had any hope of coming close in a game.

Hawks should win comfortably, but I think North will give them some sore bodies heading into September.

Betting Tip: Brisbane by 20

Quite a boring last round of footy to be fair, and even Essendon won't be able to provide some comic relief now that they are out of the race.

Brisbane looked unstoppable a few weeks ago, but I think this will be the game to put them on track, right at the right time. Just like Sydney have found some last minute form going into the finals after consecutive losses, this should be the turning point for Brisbane.

Still, I can see the Bombers coming out quickly and giving a bit of heart for half a game - but then dying away shortly after and licking their lips on the thought of going to Fortitude Valley, instead of September.

Brisbane to win easily.

Essendon Line (+35.5) 1.90 at Neds

Betting Tip: Sydney by 14

Speaking of the snobby devil, the Swans have nothing to worry about for this game, as they will finish on top regardless.

However, their past 2 month form is very average and this game would be a good opportunity to try a few things, rest a few players, and possibly even learning to play a first quarter.

Adelaide have nothing to lose or gain in this game, but no one likes to be walked over, and they have had a good few weeks, beating the Bulldogs and running with Port for most of the game.

Still, Sydney will be too strong, regardless of how many quarters they decide to play.

Sydney to Win (1-39) 2.95 at Neds

Betting Tip: Western Bulldogs by 4

Finally for some decent footy on Sunday fun day. Usually a day for retched footy, these will be the three most important games. Starting with a tough one for the Doggies, who will really want to set the tone early for the day and secure their spot.

However, they are up against the toughest of all three games with the Giants, who have a fight or die mentality for every game. They will be more than happy to put the Dogs away and send a message to not f with them in September.

Still, the Bulldogs have one of the best lists in the league, and I'm a firm believer that in finals or big games like this, the best players always step up. And the Bulldogs have a good win record at their home away from home, Ballarat.

Betting Tip: Carlton by 6

Carlton have had pressure on them all year to deliver, and have looked their best when there back is up against the wall. Last week while fielding their twos, they managed to upset the Eagles over in Perth.

The Saints though, set it out as their mission to be the grinch and ruin a few seasons, and this is their best opportunity since they binned Essendon.

I'm backing Carlton again for a few reasons - one being Patty Cripps. Not much else needed to say there. Second, they are getting a few players back, but their fill in players will also be playing their hearts out and hope to secure themselves a spot come finals.

Betting Tip: Fremantle by 12

The most pressure, or least, will be on the Dockers who will need to win regardless to stay in the race, but it may be useless depending on the previous two games.

An interesting tip here as I am contradicting my other tips, but I think if either Carlton or Bulldogs lose, that Freo will win. I'm not fully confident on either of those, but I am more confident Freo will win if they have to, over in Perth.

This will be either the most exciting game to watch this week, or the most average, due to the previous games.
