    Nick Albert
Nick Albert, Betting Site Expert - We review & compare betting sites is run by Nick and Del. Despite supporting football clubs on different sides of London, we have a number of common interests including tea, Football Manager and sports betting.

Having both worked in the betting industry, we've put our knowledge to good use to help you - and other UK punters - find the betting sites best suited to your needs.

How do we do this? Well, we test betting sites. And when I say test them, we actually use them for ourselves, i.e. we create an account, deposit money and place real bets (none of this pretending malarkey you may see elsewhere).

Our findings form the basis of our reviews, which we use to draw comparisons and make recommendations for many categories.

Here's what matters most to us when we review bookmakers:

    1. A UK license. We don't recommend bookies without a license from the UK Gambling Commission.
    2. Uniqueness. We love to see original features and offers, or, even a totally different USP.
    3. Easy, intuitive interface. A clean and straightforward design makes for a smooth, seamless experience.
    4. The availability of live streaming, particularly for the most popular sports such as racing, football, tennis & golf.
    5. Fast withdrawals. It's 2024 - you shouldn't have to sit around waiting for your winnings.
    6. Responsive customer support that allows you to chat with an actual human, not just a bot!

🌍 We're not just a big deal in the UK...

The MyBettingSites story may have started in the UK but we've grown internationally since 2019, launching in several English-speaking territories including Australia, South Africa, Nigeria and the US.

As in the UK, our international websites are looked after by small teams of native betting site experts who take great pride in helping punters find the best bookies for their specific needs.

    Here's our journey so far...

Popular questions from our users about UK betting sites

Which betting sites do you rate as the best?

Bet365, BoyleSports, Betfred etc. are all top bookmakers but there are many options to choose from that offer something different to the UK punter. The question comes back to you and what you’re looking for in a betting site. Do you want the best bookie for football? The best option for live streaming? Do you need a bookmaker that accepts PayPal?

At, we use our expert knowledge to make recommendations for different categories, including:

How many betting accounts can I have at one time?

Many punters in the UK have accounts with multiple online bookmakers to compare odds, markets and claim several new customer offers. Besides this, being signed up to more than one betting site gives you peace of mind. For example, if your sportsbook experiences technical issues, you have another option to use straight away.

Joining more than one - or even a handful of betting sites - is recommended. Bear in mind, though, that certain betting companies operate several betting sites and sometimes limit new customers to one welcome bonus for their network of sites (not one per site).

Why do I need to confirm my ID when joining a bookmaker?

A gambling company may ask you to verify your ID to check if you are legally old enough to gamble and/or check whether you have self-excluded from gambling.

Further information may be required in some cases if the bookmaker decides to run an anti-money laundering check.

Ultimately, the process is there to keep you safe and ensure the market is fair and free of crime.

Do I have to be a UK resident to join a UK betting site?

No rule says you need to be a resident. However, most UK-based betting sites require you to provide a UK address during sign-up and it’s assumed you have a UK bank account.

The bookmaker may then request both pieces of information to verify your identity.

What payment methods do online bookmakers accept?

Online bookies have cottoned on to the fact that punters want deposits and withdrawals to be convenient and quick. Payment methods commonly offered by UK online bookies include:

    • Visa/Mastercard
    • Apple Pay
    • Google Pay
    • PayPal
    • Skrill
    • Neteller
    • paysafecard
    • Bank Wire
    • Cheque
Which betting sites accept credit cards?

None. The UK Gambling Commission banned the use of credit cards in 2021 to make sure people didn’t gamble with money they didn’t have and reduce the risk of harm from gambling.

You may see MasterCard listed as a deposit/withdrawal option but it can only be used as a debit card.

Are there betting sites I should avoid?

Bookmakers not licensed by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) should be avoided, for the simple reason your safety is not guaranteed.

Before issuing a license, the UKGC will vet a betting site to ensure the brand belongs to a legitimate company and has the responsible gambling tools available to make sure customers stay safe when gambling.

If you decide to play with betting sites not licensed by the UKGC you risk losing your stake or not being paid winnings, among other things.

How many betting sites are there in the UK?

According to the UK Gambling Commission, there are 175 active online bookmakers in the UK.

Finding you the best betting sites

There may be various reasons why you're drawn to an online bookmaker. It may be the sizeable welcome offer, the fact it offers Apple Pay, or, the number of betting promotions. You may even favour a certain bookie because it sponsors your favourite team!

Certain betting sites are better suited to meet your needs and preferences than others

At, our goal is to help you sort through the 175+ options and pick the bookies that fit you most.

With this in mind, we’ve summarised the best picks for the different categories of bookmakers.

    Best UK Betting Sites

    New betting sites

The UK betting market constantly sees new additions, which keeps the more established bookmakers on their toes and ensures the market remains competitive.

New brands often launch with exciting new features or new promotions that you may not find on the older sites, giving you the chance to try something fresh and original.

These are the latest betting sites that we have reviewed on

    • Betano, Bet442, and Gentleman Jim are all new brands for 2024

We’re big fans of the stylish, unique layout on, adopted from BetVictor and also used on talkSPORT BET and Parimatch.

Betano, the official sponsor of Euro 2024, is widely acknowledged as one of the best football bookmakers around, and we agree. Odds are competitive and their bet builder is packed with markets.

The 'Lucky Dip' function is a fascinating new addition to all BV-operated sites with punters able to make random selections on different markets for various events.

As the name suggests, Bet442's main focus is on football. As with other Aspire Global betting sites, Bzeebet and Luckster, there are hundreds of markets and specials for football nuts.

Bet442 will also suit those looking for NFL odds and who enjoy betting on esports. Acca boosts, cash out and a bet builder make this a solid offering. differs from traditional bookies by offering a streamlined list of sports events instead of several hundred, which can be overwhelming for beginners.

What may be lost by covering fewer sports is made up for with the huge number of markets available within individual matches; we found 90+ for a Champions League knockout match including multiple handicaps and goals markets.

Gentleman Jim is a great new option for the betting purists after a no-frills sportsbook. Live streaming is offered on racing, and odds are good across the board, while those looking to wager substantial amounts can do so easily than on other bookies.

    Best new UK betting sites

    • BetMGM, BetGrouse, talkSPORT Bet and BetGoodwin continue to be popular among UK punters since going live in the past couple of years

BetMGM hit the ground running in August 2023 and continues to impress punters with a superb line-up of promotions and probably the best-looking sportsbook in the business.

The most eye-catching offer is their free-to-play football predictor game, Golden Goals, which allows you to win up to £2 million (learn how Golden Goals works here). There’s an abundance of daily football specials and acca boosts and a weekly free bet to be claimed too.

BetGrouse is a solid sportsbook for those betting on football, tennis and eSports. You won’t find quite the number of promotions as elsewhere but for the sheer number of sports covered and markets offered, the Aspire Global operated sportsbook is worth a punt!

talkSPORT BET provide punters with plenty of promotions for racing, football and golf including daily price boosts and free bets. On top of that, odds are competitive and there are many original features including ‘Lucky Dip’.

If you’re after a new racing bookie, BetGoodwin has to be an option. There’s an incredible number of promos. These are primarily free bet refunds reserved for horse and greyhound racing, the site keeping to its roots as one of the UK’s leading racing telephone bookmakers for some two decades.

Our Top 30 recommendations show you the best bookies overall. But if we know you well, you probably spend most of your time wagering on one or two sports.

With that in mind, we have created betting site guides for betting on the most popular sports in the UK. Below you can read a quick snapshot of our top recommendations, or, explore our specific guides for a more in-depth take.

    Horse Racing Betting Sites

    • The runners and riders include well known names BoyleSports, Sky Bet, Coral and Bet365 but Ladbrokes leads the way for us

Ladbrokes’ longevity within horse racing makes them a standout pick but our recommendation isn’t based on that alone.

Racing enthusiasts get value all the way with Best Odds Guaranteed from 8am Extra places on selected races at home and abroad and live streaming for all UK & Irish races (as well as international meetings in France, Australia and the U.S).

The variety of markets is what you’d expect from an elite racing bookmaker while Features like Build Your Own Racecard and Bet Filter allow you to build your own bets across multiple races and pick a horse based on the criteria you deem most important.

For offers, BoyleSports is renowned for its money back if 2nd deals, Sky Bet has daily odds boosts and specials while the Coral Racing Club presents racing lovers plenty of perks, for free.

And for sheer volume of racing promotions, there’s no looking past QuinnBet who have free bets and bonuses every day of the week.

It’s perhaps no surprise that Bet365 is also one of our top recommendations for horse racing. Here you’ll find the best odds and most markets, including the most Ante-Post markets. Cash prizes and free bets are up for grabs through 6 Horses Challenge, their popular racing free-to-play game.

Aside from the established names, Fitzdares used to be a membership-only bookmaker but is now available to the masses after its launch in 2018.

Its highly-rated betting site, named the SBC’s ‘Racing Sportsbook of the Year’ in 2020, keeps to the company’s rich racing history by prioritising racing above any other sport and providing users with clean, info-rich race cards.

And then there's BetGoodwin, a fairly new option for racing punters, launching in February of 2022. But if you know your racing, you will know Goodwin Racing has been one of the leading telephone betting bookmakers for over twenty years.

The company’s roots in telephone betting mean users can look forward to a highly personalised level of customer service too, second to none within the industry.

    Football Betting Sites

    • Bet365 continue to top the league but Betfred, Sky Bet and LiveScore Bet all excel with their football offering

Like Pep’s Man City, Bet365 are the ones to beat for betting on football. Not only can you watch games from the FA Cup, La Liga and Serie A (among others) but the Stoke-based bookmaker has bet builder and cash-out features that blow the competition out of the water.

Pre-match and in-play odds are consistently on the money while boosts, acca bonuses and offers like 2 Goals Ahead provide genuine value. The cherry on top of the Bet365 cake is the beautiful user interface, which allows for smooth, seamless betting time and again.

Other bookmakers we like include Betfred with its unique Double Delight & Hat-trick Heaven promotion and flexible #PickYourPunt bet builder. Sky Bet boasts the best variety of price boosts, football specials, and its new promotion, AccaFreeze, allows you to freeze one of the scores in your acca and end your bet early - a god send it must be said!

You will find football live streams aplenty and a variety of markets for cards/corners on LiveScore Bet. We can’t talk football bookies without mentioning Betfair's huge number of free bets on offer and the ability to insure, boost the odds and even edit your accumulator bet at Ladbrokes is appreciated by all football bettors.

Betano is the pick of the new football bookmakers making a splash in the UK. The brand is the choice of many like-minded football bettors worldwide including Brazil, Portugal and Germany. Customers can select from a mix of enhanced odds, bet builder boosts and even random bets.

If you fancy yourself as a football expert, there’s a huge £2 million jackpot up for grabs at BetMGM via their free-to-play Golden Goals predictor game. Members can also claim a free weekly £5 free bet and get up to 200% extra on their acca. The simplistic layout and design of the sportsbook is impressive too.
