Mason Kelliher
Mason Kelliher - Editor-in-Chief

Again, we can't discuss deposit match promo codes or any other type of bonus code but we can give you a list of Australian sign up codes for betting sites.

Use these codes when signing up or depositing at the following Australian betting sites:

Where can you get a first deposit bonus?

Frequently Asked Questions - Sign Up Bonuses & Deposit Matches

Answering all your questions about Australian sign up bonuses including the truth about the mysterious disappearances of deposit bonuses, deposit matches and bonus bets.

How do you get a deposit bonus?

Because of Australia's betting site laws which prevent the advertisement of sign-up bonuses, we cannot tell you the full answer to this question.

Only players that have betting accounts can see or receive betting bonuses.

If you already have a betting account then be sure to check the 'Promotions', 'Rewards' or 'Offers' tab of your chosen betting site or keep an eye on your emails.

What is the best sign up bonus?

The best betting sign up bonus is undeniably the 'no deposit' bonus.

Usually, to get a sign up bonus you have to make a deposit or place a bet to unlock your bet credits or bonus bets. However, with a no deposit bonus you do not have to do anything to receive your bonus i.e. no deposit is required.

When you qualify for a no deposit bonus you will receive bonus funds which can be used to place a bet. If your bet is successful then you receive your winnings (not including the deposit bonus amount), if your bet is unsuccessful, then you don't lose anything. Thus, no deposit bonuses are risk-free!

One important thing to note is that due to Australia's betting laws, betting site bonuses cannot have wagering requirements. This means that if you receive bonus credits, you can withdraw them as cash without using them in a bet. This means that if you get a no deposit bonus you are essentially getting free money!

What is a betting bonus?

A betting bonus is a type of reward given to punters by betting sites. Betting bonuses can come in various forms but include free bets, deposit bonuses, bonus bets and bet credits. These types of bonuses allow you to place real bets, without using any of your money. This means that there is essentially no risk when using a betting site bonus.

Sometimes, the term 'betting bonus' may refer to other types of betting promotions like money-back offers, odds boosts or early-payout offers.

On this page, you'll find detailed information about a bunch of different types of betting site bonuses including free bets, deposit bonuses, sign up bonuses and more.

Can Australian betting sites give bonuses after registration?

The law states that “offering any credit, voucher, reward or another benefit as an incentive to open an account or to refer another person to open an account,” is illegal.

It is not illegal to advertise bonuses to players who already have betting accounts.

Which betting sites have sign up bonuses?

No legal betting sites in Australia have 'sign-up bonuses'. This is because offering an incitement, like a betting bonus, to attract new customers is illegal in Australia.

However, there is nothing that stops betting sites from offering bonuses to existing customers.

To find out what bonuses are available to you, you will need to have a betting site account. Keep an eye on your emails or check the 'Offers' or 'Promotions' section of your chosen bookmaker.

Which betting sites have sports betting bonuses?

Sorry, but we cannot answer this one for you.

What are Australia's sports betting bonus laws?

Australia's betting regulations state that online betting sites are banned from “offering any credit, voucher, reward or another benefit as an incentive to open an account or to refer another person to open an account.”

This means that Australian betting sites cannot display, or tell you, what bonuses you may receive if you have not yet signed up.

What are free bets, deposit bonuses & no deposit bonuses?

Free bets, deposit bonuses and no deposit bonuses are all different types of betting site bonuses.

Free Bets

Free bets, as the name suggests, are bets that you can place for free. After making a qualifying deposit or placing a qualifying bet, a betting site will give you a free bet.

For example, a $10 free bet lets you place a bet worth $10 for free. If your bet is successful then you will receive your winnings (minus your free bet stake) and if your bet is unsuccessful then you will receive nothing (but you also won't lose anything).

Deposit Bonus

A deposit bonus, as the name also suggests, is a bonus that you will receive after making a deposit. Deposit bonuses are usually matched 100% with bonus credits or bonus bets (i.e. you get the value of your deposit back in bet credits/bonus bets) but they may also be matched 200% or 50%.

For example, a 100% matched deposit bonus up to $50 means that that if you deposit $50 the betting site will give $50 worth of additional bet credits. You can then use these bets credits, like free bets, to place bets for free. If your bets are successful then you will receive your winnings (minus your bet credits) and if your bets are unsuccessful then you will receive nothing (but you also won't lose anything).

No Deposit Bonus

A no deposit bonus, as the name once again suggests, is a bonus that you will receive without having to make an initial deposit or bet. No deposit bonuses are relatively uncommon as betting sites assume all the risk.

For example, a $50 no deposit bonus may be given to you in the form bet credits or bonus bets. You can then use these bets credits/bonus bets to place bets for free. If your bets are successful then you will receive your winnings (minus your bet credits) and if your bets are unsuccessful then you will receive nothing (but you also won't lose anything).

What are Sports Betting Bonuses?

Sports betting bonuses are rewards that betting sites give their customers to encourage them to place more bets.

There are a few different types of sports betting bonuses, some are so similar that basically, their names are the only unique things about them. Other bonuses might fit better under the category of 'Betting Offers' or 'Betting Promotions'.

Below we have outlined all of the most common sports betting bonuses that used to be advertised in Australia.

Sports Betting Bonuses in Australia

💵 Free Bets

Free bets are free money that you can use instead of your own money when placing bets. Free bets often have to be unlocked by making a deposit or by placing a bet. Sometimes free bets are only eligible for certain matches or betting markets.

🎁 Bonus Bets

Bonus bets are essentially free bets and they are funds that can be used instead of your own money when placing bets. Bonus bets may be given as part of a loyalty program, after making a deposit or for no apparent reason.

💰 Bet Credits

Bet credits and bonus bets are basically the same things - credits that you can use instead of your own money when placing bets. Bet credits may be given to you as a reward for betting a lot, as part of a special promotion, or as a welcome after you have created a betting site account.

💳 Deposit Bonuses

Deposit bonuses are free bets, bet credits or bonus bets that you receive after making a qualifying deposit. Deposit bonuses are often matched 100%, meaning that you receive your full deposit back in bonus credits. However, a deposit bonus may also be matched 200% (you get double your deposit in bonuses) or 50% (you get half your deposit in bonus credits).

❌ No Deposit Bonuses

No deposit bonuses are free bets, bet credits or bonus bets that you receive after doing nothing. A betting site will give you an amount of money to be used for your bets and you do not have to use any of your own money. No deposit bonuses are the best type of sports betting bonuses because they are 100% risk-free.

💯 Odds Boosts

Odds boosts are a type of betting site bonus that increases your odds, and therefore your payout. Odds boosts may be applied to certain sports or racing markets, or you may get the option of applying your own odds boosts as you wish. Odds boosts are very common and many Australian betting sites give you daily odds boosts to use. With an odds boost, you can often increase your odds so that the price you get for a given betting market is better than you will find on any other betting site.

📈 Profit Boosts

Price boosts are the same as odds boosts. You get a higher price for a sports or racing betting market and your potential winnings are also increased.

💸 Money-Back Offers

Money-back offers are also common betting site bonuses. Money-back bonuses vary by sport but essentially a money-back offer is when you get your bet stake back in the form of bet credits/bonus bets when your bet loses but comes close to winning. Common money-back offers include money-back when the horse you back to win comes 2nd, 3rd or 4th, money-back if the match you bet on goes into extra time or ends as a draw, or money-back if your runner or player gets disqualified.

📢 More Betting Site Bonuses

There are tons of other betting sites bonuses available on betting sites in Australia.

Note that most Australian sports betting bonuses have expiry dates and other conditions that relate to when and how you can use them. Always read the T&C's before using your betting bonuses. Also, know that Australian betting site bonuses are not allowed to have wagering requirements. This means that once you have received bonus funds you can withdraw them as real cash without even using them to a place a wager.

Sign Up Bonuses ✍

Are betting sign up bonuses legal?

Betting sign up bonuses are illegal in Australia.

Since May 27 2019, online wagering providers like betting sites have been banned from "offering any credit, voucher, reward or other benefit as an incentive to open an account or to refer another person to open an account.”

This decision is part of the National Consumer Protection Framework for Online Wagering (NCPF).

Can you still get betting sign up bonuses in Australia?

Despite their illegality, it is important to note that Australian betting sites are still allowed to give you bonuses that are similar to betting sign up bonuses if you are already a customer.

Creating a betting site account is free and carries no obligation to deposit money or place a bet.

What are betting sign up bonuses?

Sign-up bonuses used to be a way for betting sites to entice customers in by giving them free credits to use for their first bets. Now, betting sites cannot advertise these bonuses to players who are not yet customers.

Common betting sign-up bonuses in Australia included free bet offers, deposit bonuses and no deposit bonuses (all outlined below).

Deposit Bonuses 💳

What is a deposit bonus?

Deposit bonuses were probably the most common large betting site bonuses when advertising them was still legal. When giving deposit bonuses, betting sites fully match, or partially match, one of your deposits with bonus bets or bonus credits.

For example, a 100% matched deposit bonus up to $50 means that any deposit that you make up to $50 will be rewarded with bonus credits equaling the value of your deposit. A deposit of $25 will be matched with $25 in bonus credits, a deposit of $50 will be matched with $50 in bonus credits and a deposit of $100 will be matched with $50 in bonus credits ($50 was the maximum bonus amount).

Deposit bonus australia
What are the conditions of betting deposit bonuses?

Deposit bonuses have minimum qualifying deposit amounts i.e. the smallest amount you can deposit to receive your bonus. Deposit bonuses also have a maximum bonus amount i.e. the maximum amount of bonus credits you can receive. Often deposit bonuses can only be earned from deposits from certain payment methods i.e. Visa Card and MasterCard only. Bonus credits earned from a deposit bonus may also be restricted to certain sports or racing markets and they will likely have an expiry date. No Australian bonuses can have wagering requirements meaning that any money that you win from your bonus does not have to be re-bet.

For example, let's say that you receive a 100% matched deposit bonus up to $50 that can only be used on EPL matches. Let's also imagine that your deposit must be made by Visa Card or MasterCard and that the minimum deposit amount is $10 and that your bonus expires in 14 days. Therefore, to unlock your bonus you will have to make a Visa or MasterCard deposit of at least $10. To use your deposit bonus you will have to make a bet on an EPL match within 14 days of receiving your bonus.

How do you use a betting deposit bonus?

To use a deposit bonus you will first need to qualify. If you qualify for a deposit bonus you will likely get an email, detailing the instructions for unlocking your bonus, or you will see your deposit bonus in the Rewards, Promotions, Offers or Bonuses section of your account. After you have made your qualifying deposit you will see your bonus credits or bonus bets in your account. To use your deposit bonus, simply select an eligible bet and in your Betslip select to use your bonus credits or bonus bets rather than your own money to place your bet.

Betting Site Deposit Bonus Example

Let's say that we got a 100% matched deposit bonus up to $100. There was no advertised expiry date for this bonus and no wagering requirement.

To use the bonus we:

  • Created a betting site account by clicking on one of the buttons on this page
  • Deposited $100 into our betting account

After depositing $100 we received $100 in bonus bets.

With our $200 total we:

  • Placed a $100 bet (using our deposit) on Port Adelaide to beat Richmond at odds of 1.80
  • Placed a $100 bet (using our bonus bets) on Geelong to beat Brisbane at odds of 2.10

Unfortunately, Richmond won the first match so we lost our $100 deposit. However, The Cats beat the Lions and so our second bet won and we got $110 back (we don't get our bonus bets back).

Overall, we deposited $100, bet with $200 and then won $110. It's nothing to write home about but we still got a tidy $10 profit even after losing a $100 bet.

No Deposit Bonuses ❌

What is a no deposit bonus?

No deposit bonuses were the best, but also the rarest, type of big betting site bonus when bonus advertising was legal. No deposit bonuses require no action from your side and they are often given in the form of bet credits or bonus bets. No deposit bonuses are 'risk-free bets' because you do not have to sacrifice any of your money when qualifying for or when using them.

For example, if you get a no deposit bonus of $50 then you will be rewarded with bonus credits or bonus bets worth $50. These bonus bets or bet credits can then be used like regular money to place bets.

No deposit bonus australia
What are the conditions of betting no deposit bonuses?

Deposit bonuses have no qualifying deposit amount - hence the name 'no deposit bonus'. However, no deposit bonuses are often smaller than other types of sports betting bonuses because the betting site assumes all the risk when offering them. Bonus credits earned from a no deposit bonus may be restricted to certain sports or racing markets and they will likely have an expiry date. No Australian bonuses can have wagering requirements meaning that any money you win from your bonus, does not have to be re-bet. You may receive a no deposit bonus as part of a loyalty program, as a thank you for creating an account, or for no apparent reason at all.

For example, let's say that you receive a $50 deposit bonus that can only be used on AFL matches. Let's also imagine that your no deposit expires in 14 days. Therefore, to use your bonus credits you will need to bet $50 on an AFL match within 14 days of receiving your no deposit bonus.

How do you use a betting no deposit bonus?

To use a no deposit bonus you will first need to qualify. If your betting site offers no deposit bonuses you will likely find qualifying requirements in the 'Offers' or 'Promotions' section of their website. You may also qualify for a no deposit bonus by accident or for no apparent reason. After qualifying, you will receive your no deposit bonus in the form of bonus bets or bonus credits. You will likely get an email, detailing the instructions for using your bonus, or you will see that your no deposit bonus is in the Rewards, Promotions, Offers or Bonuses section of your account. To use your no deposit bonus, simply select an eligible bet and in your Betslip select to use your bonus credits or bonus bets rather than your own money to place your bets.

Betting Site No Deposit Bonus Example

Let's say you received a $50 no deposit bonus from an Australian betting site.

To use the bonus you would have to:

  • Create a betting site account by clicking on one of the betting site buttons above

After fulfilling the no deposit bonus requirements (whatever they may be) you receive your $50 no deposit bonus in the form of bonus bets.

With your $50 worth of bonus bets you:

  • Place a $50 bet on Manchester United to beat Newcastle United in the Premier League at odds of 1.70

Man U win the match 4-1 and so you get $35 (you don't get your bonus bets back).

Overall, you deposited nothing and bet with $50 for a profit of $35. Even if you had lost your bet you would have lost no money. This is why no deposit bonuses are so popular, but also so hard to come by.

Free Bets 💵

What are free bets?

Free bets used to be the most common betting site bonus advertised in Australia before new betting legislation was passed in 2019. Free bets can be big or small but they are essentially the same as deposit bonuses. When giving you free bets, a betting site will either match your bets, or deposits, with free bet credits. These free bet credits can be used instead of your own money when placing a bet.

Free bets are similar to some of the common same game multi promotions, where you receive cash back if you lose a leg of the multi. For more info on Same Game Multis and to see which operators have this feature, visit our Same Game Multi page.

For example, a Bet $10 Get $30 in Free Bets offer means that when you place a $10 bet you will receive $30 worth of free bets to use. Sometimes these free bets are given as separate bets (e.g. three separate $10 bets) or sometimes you will receive a single larger free bet (e.g. one $30 free bet).

Free Bets Australia
What are the conditions of free bets?

Free bets often have a qualifying requirement. This could be a certain value of qualifying bets i.e Bet $10 Get $30 in Free Bets or a certain deposit amount could be needed i.e. Deposit $50 get $50 in Free Bets. Free Bets with deposit requirements may be restricted to certain payment methods i.e. Visa Card and MasterCard only. Free Bets may also be restricted to certain sports or racing markets and they will likely have an expiry date. No Australian bonuses can have wagering requirements meaning that any money you win from your Free Bets will not have to be re-bet.

For example, let's say that you receive a Bet $10 Get $30 in Free Bets offer from an Australian betting site. To unlock your $30 worth of free bets you will need to place a $10 bet and then use your $30 in free bets before the expiry date.

How do you use free bets?

To use free bets you will first need to qualify. If you qualify for free bets you will likely get an email, detailing the instructions for unlocking your free bet credits, or you will see your free bet offers in the Rewards, Promotions, Offers or Bonuses section of your account. After you have fulfilled the qualifying requirements for your free bets you will see them in your account. To use your free bets, simply select an eligible bet and in your Betslip and select to use your free bet credits rather than your own money when placing your bets.

Betting Site Free Bets Example

Let's say that you receive a Bet $10 Get $30 in Free Bets offer from an Australian betting site. There was a 14-day expiry date for this bonus and no wagering requirement.

To get your free bets you:

  • Create a betting site account by clicking on one of the links on this page
  • Deposit at least $10 into your account
  • Place a qualifying bet of $10 on the Broncos to beat the Cowboys in the NRL at odds of 2.50.

You have now qualified for three $10 free bets. Let's say that the Cowboys win and so your bet loses.

With your three $10 free bets you:

  • Place a $10 bet on the Panthers to beat the Roosters at odds of 2.20
  • Place a $10 bet on the Eels to beat the Storm at odds of 2.00
  • Place a $10 bet on the Raiders to beat the Sharks at odds of 1.80

Unfortunately, the Eels lose so you lose one of your free bets. However, the Panthers beat the Roosters and the Raiders beat the Sharks.

Therefore you win $12 form the Roosters win and $8 from the Raiders win for $20 in total winnings (you don't get any of your free bet credits back).

Overall, you deposited $10, bet with $40 and then won $20 to make a profit of $10. It's nothing to write home about but you still got a tidy $10 profit even after losing two bets and depositing only $10.

Other Betting Bonuses

Betting site bonuses vary by betting site and by sport. Some of these bonuses are very similar but with slight name changes while others are unique to specific sports betting sites.

We have already talked about some of the most common Australian betting bonuses on this page but below we have also compiled a list of some the less common sports betting bonuses.

Remember to read the T&C's of any bonus that you may receive in order to understand where it can be used and what the requirements are for claiming it.
