Richmond were very unimpressive last week, and Carlton's maturity to come from 5 goals down to last years Grand Finalists, up in Brisbane also, was very inspiring. Carlton are our pick to be the 2024 AFL Premiership winner, and we think they'll really start to show their stride.

With Dusty and Tom Lynch back in the squad, Richmond will have a bit more options up forward, but the Blues fire is only just about to begin, and I think Carlton will comfortably take it home.

Head to Head: Collingwood by 5

Collingwood didn't play like premiers last week, however I think they will bounce back after a serious reality check and play better team footy this week. Although big man Brodie Grundy absolutely brought it to his former club Melbourne last week, he'll be getting more attention this week against his other former club - especially if the big American hero wants to stay in the headlines.

Head to Head: Essendon by 13

One of the biggest rivalries in the AFL, will be an interesting spectacle to see how both teams will fare this weekend. Essendon had a shocking end of the year last year, however they do normally come out strong early in the season, before losing interest when the finals chances are slim. However, I think they will break the finals curse this year, while I'm not expecting much from the Hawks.

Head to Head: GWS by 35

The orange tsunami has far from receded and will be in full force in ENGIE Stadium this week. However, I don't think it'll be quite the belting that is anticipated, North came out of the gates strong last year, and showed some promise in a few games in 2023. They'll be giving it their all from the start - albeit, their all probably isn't that impressive.

St Kilda had a decent year last year and finished 6th, although they were quite unimpressive in the finals. I don't see much coming from the cattery this year, however to beat the cats down at Kardinia takes a team stronger than how St Kilda are looking.

Head to Head: Adelaide by 12

As we all know, Adelaide were absolutely steaming home last year and had the worst umpiring decision in the history of AFL ruin their finals dreams. They'll be coming out of the gates flying and have a solid enough midfield. Gold Coast played well against Richmond last week, although Richmond will be competing for the spoon. Adelaide travel fine, I'm backing them to get it done in Gold Coast.

Head to Head: Western Bulldogs by 12

The Doggies were just a bit underwhelming at the end of last year, however I'm backing them for an upset. Their midfield can certainly take it to the Dees, but they've also got an elite forward line and some depth of tall men. Both of these things Melbourne are seriously missing, and poor Gawny can't do it all.

Head to Head: Port Adelaide by 50

This should be an absolute cake walk for the Port, especially down at home. They'll be looking at having a strong start, after a disappointing finals and end of 2023 season. It will be interesting to watch West Coast in their rebuilding phase however, and there will be a lot of eyes on Harley Reid to see if he will be the 2024 AFL Rising Star, and I think he'll manage to snag one in his first hit out.
