The Best Betting Apps in Canada

Let’s help find you a betting app
Alex Goldstein
Alex Goldstein - Editor-in-chief

We’ve spent the last month testing 8 legal and safe betting apps in Canada (& Ontario), and we can confidently say that Betway offers Canada’s best app for sports betting.

We were pretty surprised to find that only 8 sportsbooks offered legal, safe betting apps, but this number is bound to grow in the coming months.

How we tested each betting app

We started by reviewing their licensing status (did they carry the Ontario license, and were they still available to players outside of Ontario), and then we used Apple and Android devices to download the apps from the App Store and the Google Play Store.

We then signed up, deposited, and had a look around for any special features. We then placed a couple bets, and tested out the withdrawal process.

What you can find on this page

We’ve started by listing and reviewing the top 8 betting apps that are available throughout Canada. We then provide the best betting apps that are available in Ontario, and then continue by expanding on the betting sites without apps that still have good mobile websites.

We then close down the page with how to download betting apps in Canada and how we tested and ranked these apps.

Reviews of the best betting apps in Canada

1
Betway App

✅ 4.7 rating on the App Store

✅ Outstanding betting app for soccer

✅ Regular bet specials for a range of sports

❌ Odds could improve

Betway’s app is the perfect option for those of you looking for your first betting app. The app is safe, functions well, and offer regular specials, along with prompting info to help you on your journey. The app is also outstanding for soccer betting, but offers NBA, NHL & NFL events well too. The one thing we’d want improved with Betway’s app would be the odds, as they don’t have the margins available on Bet365 or LeoVegas.

Bet365 App

✅ Best app for variety of betting markets

✅ Competitive odds margins across all sports

✅ Bet builders, special bets & live-streaming available

❌ Cash out offers could improve

Bet365 is our pick for those of you who are looking for something more from your betting app. You won’t find a better option for number of bets offered, and only LeoVegas rivals the odds found on Bet365. This app also makes bet builders, live-streaming and regular specials available. When we checked, no other betting app made more same game parlays available for different sports. Bet365 could improve its cash out offers, but aside from this, their app is fantastic.

LeoVegas App

✅ Mobile operator of the year (2019)

✅ Fantastic odds margins mean you win more

✅ Pre-set & customizable same game parlays available

❌ Separate apps for sports & casino

Having won mobile operator of the year in 2019, and now offering the best odds margins, it’s clear why LeoVegas tops comes in so high on our lists. You can also find a range of same game parlays, trending combos, and a good level of bet personalization on this betting app. The one thing we found inconvenient was the need to download separate apps for casino and sports, but that aside, we loved LeoVegas’ betting app.

NEO.bet App

✅ Personal bet configurator (same game parlays)

✅ “And/or” options available on bet configurator

✅ Form stats showcased next to odds

❌ Some instructional material is in German

NEO.bet’s functions well across different mobile devices. The app offers up a personal bet configurator, which is the name NEO.bet uses for their same game parlay. While this is nice, we thought that the bookie could offer up a couple more options to build bets with. NEO.bet also makes their “and” & “or” markets available, which we really liked, and we were impressed with the form stats that are visible next to the odds. We didn’t like that some instructional material was in German, but we’re sure NEO.bet will end up fixing this eventually.

888Sport App

✅ Leading bet tracking feature

✅ Exclusive made-for-you bets

✅ Wide range of “888 Specials”

❌ User reports indicate issues with app usability

888Sport arguably offers up the most innovative betting app in Canada. Aside from their slick looking design, users can use their bet feed bet tracking feature, to see which other 888sports users are betting on. You’re also able to get tailored made suggested bets based on your latest picks, and the app offers up a wide range of unique specials and competitions. The issue we had, and it was quite a big one, was that users have commented that 888sport can crash or log you out from time to time.

BetVictor App

✅ Regular boosts & specials available

✅ Seamless interface to interact with

✅ Best bet builder for NBA & soccer

❌ Bet builder could improve for other sports

BetVictor’s app is perfect for those of you out there that are looking for a seamless and easy betting experience. BetVictor also makes the best bet builder for the NBA and soccer available on their app, and offers users, both new and returning, an extensive list of different specials for a wide range of sports. The only thing we’d like to see BetVictor do differently is offer a bet builder with the same level of customization for other sports.

Comeon! App

✅ Plenty of betting markets

✅ Great level of bet personalization

✅ Best app for personal jackpot games

❌ No sportsbook in Ontario

Comeon offers a slick, easy to use app, that’s available on the App Store and Google Play Store. If you’re based outside of Ontario, Comeon provides an impressive selection of different bets, and offers a fantastic level of bet customization. An issue we had with this book, however, is that if you’re based in Ontario, you don’t have the ability to bet on sports. Comeon only offers casino in Ontario, but what you can access in this province, is a leading casino when it comes to personal jackpot games.

Casumo App

✅ Offers good odds for niche sports

✅ Releases new casino games weekly

✅ 1600+ casino games available on-site

❌ No sportsbook in Ontario

Casumo is another brand that offers no sports betting in Ontario. If you’re based outside the Heartland Province, you can access some decent odds for niche sports, but what’s clear about Casumo is that it’s a casino first brand. Casumo offers up more than 1600 casino games, and releases new casino games on a weekly basis. Games like Book of Dead, Gonzo’s Quest, and Big Bass Bonanza are all featured.

3 things to know when looking for a betting app

If you’re getting started with betting on a mobile device, there are a couple of things we should give you a heads-up about. Take a look below at our top 3 tips before you get your hands on an app to start betting. If you’re well versed in the betting app game, you can skip past to our review for the top 5 betting apps in Ontario (four of them are available throughout the rest of Canada too).

You can now get betting apps on Google Play

If you’re an Android user, then this bit’s for you. Gone are the days of having to go through the clumsy APK download process, as betting apps in Canada are now being listed on the Play Store, which can’t be said for all countries that the Play Store is active in.

Before, Android users would need to change a bunch of security settings on their phone, and download a large, unfamiliar file, which often led to all kinds of issues for users’ devices.

Nowadays, it's just a simple case of choosing a sportsbook, heading over to the app store through the link they provide after signing up, and getting an app onto your device.

Not all sportsbooks offer apps

While the phrases betting sites and betting apps may be used interchangeably throughout North America, not all sportsbooks in Canada make apps available. Out of the 14 sportsbooks that are safe to use throughout the country, only 8 make sports betting apps available, while the other 6 give users the option to sign up with, and use mobile betting websites.

They work similar to apps in that you can pin their icons to your phone’s home screen, so that you’re easily able to access them, and use them much like you’d use any other betting app.

Sign up on a sportsbook’s website before getting the app

Signing up on a sportsbook’s website can ensure a smoother, more enjoyable process. If you have a desktop or laptop at your disposal, you can see more of the information fields you’ll need to fill out, and will have an easier time seeing what information that sportsbook will require of you.

Once you’ve signed up on the website, you can navigate to the app store using the bookmaker’s very own links, which means that once you’ve downloaded the app, you’ll have an account that’s ready for you to log in to.

Top 5 Betting Apps in Ontario

After the launch of regulated sports betting in Ontario, over 25 betting apps have entered the mix, with the number bound to grow in the coming weeks. Below, we list our top 5 Ontario betting apps, and provide a link to our article that lists and compares all the sports betting apps that are available in the province.

1. Betway App Ontario

Licensed in Ontario

Betway’s app is available throughout Canada, with a separate app available for users in Ontario. Betway’s app is one of the highest ranking on the App Store, which goes to show that it’s a smash hit amongst a wide range of different users across the country. Betway’s app is best for users who like daily specials. You can find inflated odds for NBA, NFL, soccer and NHL.

We also liked that the app offered great live betting functionality consisting of easy to view live odds, virtual feeds, great cash out offers, and plenty of match up statistics. Betway also offer up the most impressive sportsbook when it comes to esports betting, offering up the widest range of options, live-streaming, and a dedicated page bringing you stats, news and more.

The issues we had with Betway included the lower value odds than what you can find on Bet365, and LeoVegas, along with the fact that the app only offers a bet builder for soccer, and no other sports.

Betway App Store Screenshot

2. Bet365 App Ontario

Licensed in Ontario

Just like Betway, Bet365 is also a platform that is available in all of Canada, with a separate betting app for users in Ontario. Bet365 offers more bets than any other betting apps, and offers a bet builder that has plenty of customization functionality. The app itself is available on the App Store, as well as on the Google Play Store, and Bet365 also makes available a QR code on their website that you can scan with your phone to get the app.

Bet365’s app offers up some of the best odds in terms of value. Only LeoVegas’ app can compete with what’s on offer, along with Pinnacle, but Pinnacle does not offer an app that provides sports betting (only in-game tracking). In terms of betting markets, Bet365 remains undefeated, offering unique player and game props across a wide range of sports.

The only thing about Bet365’s app that we weren’t wild about were the cash-out offers, that we felt could have been a little more generous. We’d recommend getting Betway’s app if you like a good cash out offer.

Bet365 operates pursuant to an agreement with iGaming Ontario.

Bet365 ios app store

3. LeoVegas Ontario App

Licensed in Ontario

LeoVegas is available in both Ontario and in the rest of Canada, which is it why it ranks so highly on our overall betting apps list in Canada, as well as our Ontario betting apps list. We’ve already spoken about LeoVegas’ prior success at awards ceremonies, so we’ll skip to some reasons why we’re fans of their app in Ontario specifically.

LeoVegas offers a wide range of same game parlays and combos across plenty of sports, that are easy to find and use when using their app. LeoVegas also makes competitive odds available on their app, which are sometimes more valuable than the odds offered on Bet365, which is quite a big deal.

LeoVegas’ app also offers users some nice features, such as the trending combos found as you enter the app’s homepage, as well as a nifty personalization feature that allows you to star a given league so you can easily access it in the future. The only issue we had with LeoVegas’ app was the fact that users need to download separate apps for sports and casino, which can be a bit heavy in terms of the hard drive space required.

4. Proline Ontario App

Licensed in Ontario

The only sportsbook on this list that is not available to users outside Ontario, Proline makes our top 5 list because of how well suited it is to newer users. Navigating Ontario newly regulated online sportsbooks can be overwhelming, especially if you’re a beginner, so opting for the safe, government run option can feel appealing in a lot of cases.

We think Proline’s a great choice for new bettors that are native to Ontario because there are a lot of useful prompts, and there are plenty of in-store Proline locations, which can be handy if you find yourself needing a hand from a living human, and not a chatbot that so many other sportsbooks implement.

Another reason we like Proline is because of the way they’ve approached their betting app’s development. Proline’s app used to be a glorified betting ticket generator. It would produce a QR code, that you’d then need to take to your nearest Proline location to scan if you’d made the right picks. Nowadays, the app offers a full stack sports betting product, that you can deposit, bet, and withdraw on. The only issue with Proline we had was the fact that you couldn’t access the same kinds of features that are available on other, commercial sportsbooks apps that are available.

Screenshot of Proline app from the app store

5. NEO.bet Ontario App

Licensed in Ontario

Rounding out the top 5 betting apps in Ontario is NEO.bet, mainly because they offer an app that is fairly different what else is available in Ontario. Highlights of their app involve its functionality across different mobile devices the personal bet configurator, as well as the form stats that show you how the given team or competitor has fared in their last handful of performances.

Another thing we liked about the personal bet configurator was the fact that users are able to select an “and” & “or” feature. The difference here being that the “and” feature allows you to add selections, while the “or” option reduces the odds, but means that only one of your picks have to come off for you to win your bet.

Things about NEO.bet that we weren’t too impressed with involved their questionably laid out betting site. While it was unique, we thought it was a little clumsy, and inconsistent at times. We also didn’t like that some instructional information was in German, but we’re sure that that’ll change with time.

Top betting apps for Android

For what felt like ages, betting apps were not available on Google’s Play Store. Users with an Android had to download an APK, which is a file that contains an app.

The issue with downloading APKs was that the process was pretty clumsy, users had to change security settings on their phone, and the process was unique to certain devices which meant that instructions from bookmakers weren’t always device specific.

Luckily, those days are over. Below, we’ve listed the top ranked betting apps on the Google Play Store

Best Android Betting Apps

  1. 888Sport - 4.5 Google Play Rating
  2. Betway - 4.4 Google Play Rating
  3. ComeOn - 4.1 Google Play Rating
  4. LeoVegas - 4.0 Google Play Rating
  5. BetVictor - 3.9 Google Play Rating
  6. Bet365 - 3.3 Google Play Rating

Best mobile betting sites (without apps)

Among all the betting sites that are available in both Ontario and the rest of Canada’s provinces and territories, there are five sportsbooks that do not offer betting apps, which makes the split between betting apps and mobile betting sites pretty even.

Mobile betting sites are still a decent alternative, as they have the same look and feel of betting apps, and most enable you the possibility to add a shortcut to their website on your phone’s home screen, which makes them feel a lot like betting apps.

Below, you can find the top mobile betting sites in Canada that do not offer betting apps, but are still worth joining:

Mobile betting sites canada

Sports Interaction Mobile

Our Pick for Novelty Bets AGCO licence number: OPIG1242525

Sports Interaction is Canada’s home-grown book, and it’s full of unique specials and bets that are bound to keep users looking for more homemade feel coming back. And we are happy to relay that the Sports Interaction mobile app has now officially launched on iOS and Android!

We really liked the range of unique bets, from piñata picks (randomized bets with crazy odds) to NHL props, as well as the margin of victory bets made available for CFL games. Sports Interaction also makes a unique, free to play feature available, which includes the NHL bracket contest as well as their “pick em” option, that users can play on a number of different sports leagues, including the NHL, NBA, and many more. Sports Interaction also makes 24/7 support available.

Issues with SIA's betting app, include the frequently suspended markets. We very often notice that markets get suspended, which can be a bit annoying if you’re looking to get a bet in early. Sports Interaction also doesn’t offer up the best odds, but they’re better than Powerplay’s - and there are other features that make up for the lacking odds.

Pinnacle Mobile

Our Pick for Pro Bettors AGCO licence number: OPIG1236075

Pinnacle’s mobile betting site is our top pick for experienced bettors look to place wagers on the move. Pinnacle offers up the best odds, and allows users to make bets with very stakes, and does not shy away from taking in winning players. Books like Betway and Bet365 are known to restrict winning players, while Pinnacle welcomes them.

Aside from having the best odds in Canada, Pinnacle’s mobile betting site is a leader in terms of the number of payment methods it offers users. While most people in Canada will be satisfied with Interac, knowing that they have a handful of other options waiting in the wings can be comforting.

While Pinnacle don’t offer an app for sports betting, the operator does make a live game tracking app available, which we wouldn’t mind seeing integrated into a betting app one of these days. Aside from no app, we don’t think Pinnacle is the best destination for users that are completely new to betting, as some markets aren’t always labelled very clearly.

Bet99 Mobile

Our Pick for Player Prop Bets AGCO licence number: OPIG1235604

Another Canadian focussed mobile sportsbook, Bet99 come up big when it comes the sports that have the most viewership in North America. Bet99 offers plenty for the NBA, NHL, and NFL, and doesn’t stop there. Their NBA bet builder, that also has some functionality for soccer as well, is a big highlight, as well as their odds for hockey, football, and basketball.

Bet99 also offers regular odds boosts for a range of sports across their book, and is licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, as well as in Ontario, which makes them officially legal to use across every province in Canada. Not too many other sportsbooks can boast having two Canadian licenses.

Bet99 has now officially launched a mobile app on iOS & Android, which is a massive improvement over the already good mobile website.

Powerplay Mobile

Our pick for Virtual Bets AGCO licence number: OPIG1242190

Powerplay’s another hyper-focussed mobile Canadian sportsbook, that is committed to providing an easy-to-use, frill-free betting experience. Some of the areas we liked most about Powerplay’s mobile site were the range of novelty and mobile bets that are made available.

Powerplay also makes a couple specials bets available on the UFC, and also ensures simple deposits and withdrawals via Interac on their mobile site. We also liked the fresh take their bet builder provides, which functions well when you’re accessing their site on a mobile device.

Aside from not offering an app, Powerplay lacks the range of markets that can be found on other sportsbooks, namely Betway and Bet365.

Bwin Mobile

Our Pick for Live Streaming AGCO licence number: OPIG1233926

Bwin’s a sportsbook that’s been in the game for a long time, which makes their lack of a betting app even more surprising. Their mobile web version functions really well, and looks really slick and sophisticated.

Some highlights we had with regard to Bwin’s mobile sportsbook include the customizable bet builders that are available on the NBA, NHL, NFL, soccer and more. Bwin is also a top book in terms of UFC, offering bets such as gone in 60 seconds. Bwin, like Bet99 is also licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission (as well as in Ontario), giving it an extra boost in terms of the way it’s regulated.

Issues with Bwin include their lack of any esports odds, along with the fact that they don’t offer too much in the way of live-streaming for bigger sports. While we like the streams they offer for more niched sports like ping pong and volleyball, we preferred Bet365 because they offer a far wider selection of streaming.

How we ranked betting apps

License status

We checked to see if each of the brands that offer betting apps are licensed in Ontario, as well as another offshore licensing body so that they’re available to residents throughout Canada’s provinces and territories.

Ratings on App Store/Google Play

We checked which betting apps were rated the best on the app store, for each device category. We also made sure to read the comments and reviews left by users to get some insights into how these apps functioned for others on top of how they functioned for us.

Ease of signing up with & downloading apps

Getting started is key, so we downloaded and created accounts with each of the betting apps listed on this page, in order to see which of these apps was easiest to get going with. For us, Bet365 was the easiest book to get started with, while Betway was another that made signing up and downloading easy.

Ease of payment processes

Making payments should be easy, and all the brands listed here accept payments via Interac, and via card. Bet365’s app was our favourite in terms of the payments it makes available, but Pinnacle is the best mobile website when it comes to the payment options it offers.

User experience

User experience is pretty subjective, so we urge giving each of the apps that look interesting a try. For us, BetVictor’s app was the one that stood out in terms of ease of use and navigation, but other apps that offered a good user experience included Betway and Bet365.

Betting Odds

When we look into betting odds, we make use of Pinnacle’s margin calculator, which indicates the margins that bookmakers keep for your winning bets. The lower the margin, the better the odds.

LeoVegas & Bet365 were the two apps that offered up the best betting odds amongst all the apps listed on this page. Other decent odds providers include Pinnacle and Bet99, however, they do not offer apps.

Betting Markets

When we check the range of bets a betting app makes, the process is pretty simple. We just check the number of bets that are being offered across the most popular sports in Canada. Bet365’s app is the undisputed king of offering a wide range of betting markets. LeoVegas and Betway are also solid options for the range of bets they have on offer.

Betting Apps in Canada Overview

Betting apps are on the up, with more and more sportsbooks in Canada offering them. These days, betting on a mobile is becoming more accessible, which means that you don’t need to be sat down behind a computer in order to get started with betting. If you haven’t managed to find a betting app that interests you, we’ve highlighted the best sportsbook apps for different features to round out this betting app comparison.
