Those of a certain age will remember John Lovell Racing, with the Welshman known as a pioneer in horse race betting and the first to introduce computerised betting to British racecourses. The company was a mainstay of racecourses for nearly 50 years and, at its peak, operated just over a dozen betting shops.
Today, all of that experience and expertise is alive and kicking on Dragonbet.com, built to become the online bookmaker of Wales with a focus on Welsh sports events and teams.
DragonBet has been active in the UK since 2022, but only secured its sportsbook license in Ireland in January 2026.

The Bookies Offering Something Fresh
It's one thing for betting companies to attract new customers, but it's another thing to keep them sweet. However, given the competitive market we have in Ireland, it’s almost essential that bookies find ways to retain the interest of existing members.
How they do it varies from bookmaker to bookmaker. But in most cases, it's through free-to-play games, new features or new promotions.
Among the latest brands to make additions to their offerings include:
Betfred with its free-to-play predictor game, Goal Builder+. Existing customers can win a share of the weekly €10k jackpot, along with free bets, by correctly predicting five details of the first goal scored in Betfred’s selected Premier League match.
Sky Bet with its new feature, Squad Bet. Available on most (but not all) football matches, members can assemble several players from both teams and select an outcome for them to achieve together. If they do, you win your bet.
Ladbrokes & Coral with their new horse racing bet builders. The product allows punters to combine multiple selections from the same race into one customised bet. The two Entain brands have joined the likes of William Hill & bet365 in rolling out a feature that allows punters to add several legs in one bet, as is commonplace with football betting.

The Bookmakers That Offer a New Way of Doing Things
There are betting companies that have demonstrated there’s more than one way to skin a cat, so to speak, offering a different approach to conventional online sportsbooks and veering away from the focus on market variety and generous welcome bonuses to offer something unique.
Kwiff is a perfect example of this. Netbet - Blending AI and Betting
Available in both the UK and Ireland, Netbet launched the industry’s first AI-powered betting assistant, ‘Bet AI’, in 2024, a tool designed to engage users and provide a seamless, intuitive betting experience.
Those using the tool can check betting rules, information about upcoming events, view betting odds and sports data and even get assistance with placing a sports wager.
Most impressively, perhaps, the Bet AI Assistant promotes responsible gambling by recognising signs of distress. In such cases, the user is provided with a link to the contact page so they can find advice or speak to a (human) customer assistant.
