Enter the DragonBet

Welsh-focused online bookie DragonBet has expanded its operations by acquiring a Remote Bookmaker's license in Ireland, becoming the latest betting site to enter the Irish market.

The Cardiff-based company was built on the foundations of the John Lovell Racing brand, a family-run business with over five decades of experience in the Welsh racing market and has been active as a UK bookmaker since 2022.

Now, it's the turn of Irish punters to experience DragonBet, which is fully optimised for Welsh punters looking to bet on the biggest Welsh events in horse racing, football and rugby, but still features non-Welsh events on its red and black sportsbook.

Need to Reapply for Irish License

Ireland is currently in the process of overhauling its gambling laws. For now, DragonBet's newly acquired license is sufficient. But with the newly formed Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) beginning to apply its framework, a new license will be required.

The GRAI was established in March 2025 to modernise Ireland's outdated gambling laws.

New regulations, including the creation of a Social Impact Fund to combat gambling addiction and a ban on TV/radio ads between 5:30 am and 9:00 pm, along with a new licensing structure, are beginning to come into force.

When fully implemented, all current licensed bookmakers will need to reapply for a new license granted by the GRAI.
