World Cup Favourites

Last Updated: 30 Sep 2022

The World Cup favourites this year are Brazil, according to the leading World Cup betting sites in Canada. After assessing outright World Cup winner odds listed by Betway, Bet365, 888Sport, LeoVegas & Royal Panda, Brazil has been given the highest probability of winning the competition outright from the offset.

The favourite to win World Cup top goal scorer is Harry Kane according to the same betting sites listed above.

Know your bet, but don't have a betting site? Or perhaps you're a newbie, and you're not sure how to start betting? We have you covered. Clicking on one of the grey buttons below will take you to one of our articles designed to help you with either choosing a betting site or with placing bets.

World Cup Winner Odds

As we know, Brazil is the favourite to win the World Cup, but what odds have Betway, 888Sport, LeoVegas and Royal Panda given them? Good question. Listed below are the outright odds given to Brazil by Canada's leading World Cup betting sites.

You can visit each given book by clicking on the green “BET” button, which can be found in each row (the links will take you to a dedicated landing page, not an exact betting page. Click here to learn how to bet on outrights).

World Cup Winner odds according to the best betting sites

As we can see from the list above, the odds are pretty competitive. Betway is offering the best odds – 5.50 on Brazil to win the World Cup. This means if you make a $10 bet on Brazil to win on odds of 5.50 (+450), and your pick is correct (where Brazil would go on to win the World Cup), you’d win $55.

With Royal Panda, if you made the same bet, on odds of 4.80 (+380), and it was the right bet, you’d only make $48, meaning you’d be getting more bang for your buck if you were to bet on Betway.

So, Who will win the World Cup?

Brazil will win the World Cup. Okay, let’s take a few steps back and get real for a second. According to the best World Cup betting sites in Canada and tons of sports blogs and resources out there, it’s looking likely that the World Cup is Brazil’s for the taking. But the betting sites can be wrong, and often are.

France for example is tough to ignore. A well-rounded team, former champions, and players at the top of their game mean that the French could definitely upset the betting sites. The same goes for England, Argentina, Spain, Belgium, and many more.

With this in mind, we asked our experts here at My Betting Sites who they think will win the World Cup. We do warn you to take their picks with a pinch of salt, as they suffer from their own biases.

Alex, who do you think will win the World Cup?
Alex Goldstein
Alex Goldstein - Editor-in-chief

While Brazil’s getting all the hype, I think Portugal is going to cause a few upsets and take home the trophy. Maybe my thinking is influenced by my Portuguese roots, but the team has the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva and Joa Felix to choose from in attack, a few solid midfield options in Ruben Neves, Bruno Fernandes and Vitinha, along with the likes of Ruben Dias in defence. I've bet on Portugal to be outright winners on Betway.

Ben, who do you think will win the World Cup?
Ben Smith
Ben Smith

Easy. It’s coming home. While I work on reviewing the best betting sites in Canada (and live here), I actually come from England, and one thing is for sure, this is our year. The Lionesses proved it in the Euros earlier this year, and I expect the three lions to go all the way and lift the trophy. Harry Kane, Jadon Sancho, and Declan Rice will all be World Cup winners in a few months. I've placed a bet on England to be outright winners with Bet365.

World Cup Group Winner Odds

If you don’t know how the World Cup works, the list of teams that have qualified for the competition is divided into 8 groups. Two teams from each group move on to the round of 16, which is when the competition moves into a play-off style format. Teams that lose from the Round of 16 onwards are knocked out of the tournament immediately.

Listed below, you can find the breakdown of the 8 groups that have qualified for the World Cup, which teams will be competing in them, and who are favourites to win the group.

World Cup Top Goal Scorer Favourites

Now that we have an idea of which teams are looking likely to win, and which teams are looking likely to win their respective groups, you may be interested in finding out more about the World Cup top goalscorer favourites.

In the list of odds below, we’ve pulled the top 5 World Cup top goal-scoring favourites and provided the odds given to each player from Canada’s leading World Cup betting sites.

Top Goal Scorers Favourite Odds

Ben, who's your pick for the top goal scorer?
Ben Smith
Ben Smith

For me, it's gotta be Karim Benzema. That's a juicy bet (especially with LeoVegas), with exceptionally wide odds for a goal scorer on top of his game, playing for a team with a point to prove. France is under a lot of pressure at this World Cup. The French football association has given Didier Deschamps (France's head coach) an ultimatum. Get the team to the semi-finals, or kiss your job goodbye. If I were Deschamps, I would be very happy to have Benzema at my disposal, as he's proven time and again that he can be the difference, no matter how much pressure is on him.

Which team will win the World Cup?

We've told you that Brazil is in a poll position to win the World Cup. Alex thinks Portugal will win (bless him), and Ben thinks the English will take it home (as if). That's only three teams that we've properly provided so far. The truth is that there are plenty of other teams that have a chance to win the tournament.

Some have better chances than others, and some of been given far wider odds than others. The remainder of this article poses questions surrounding which team will win the World Cup.

Will Brazil win the World Cup?

It’s difficult to answer who will win the World Cup conclusively, but as it stands, Brazil is looking to be in the best position to win the World Cup. Brazil are favourites on all of the World Cup betting sites, and appear to be favourites according to many experts and pundits.

If we look solely at the odds, then one would think Brazil will in fact win, but of course, soccer is a complicated and unpredictable sport, in which anything can happen.

We asked Alex and Ben if they thought Brazil would win the world cup.

Alex, will Brazil win the World Cup?
Alex Goldstein
Alex Goldstein - Editor-in-chief

Allegiances to Portugal aside, I think Brazil can win the World Cup. They’ll be travelling to Qatar with one of the best squads, that looks to be overflowing with options in all parts of the pitch. To answer the question more specifically though, no, I don’t think Brazil will win the World Cup.

Ben, will Brazil win the World Cup?
Ben Smith
Ben Smith

Nah, I don’t think they will. While the betting sites provide odds that indicate that it’s most probable for the Brazilians will win, I don’t think they have the steel to go all the way. I see them breezing through the group stages, but when they meet trickier opposition in the knockout stage, my gut feeling tells me that they’ll crumble.

Best odds for Brazil to win the World Cup

Will France win the World Cup?

France is definitely a contender to lift the World Cup trophy when all has been settled in Qatar. Another team brimming with loads of talent, and managed by a seasoned tournament winner, the French are looking like one of the teams to beat in the World Cup.

The only area of concern with France winning the World Cup is their tendency in recent times to blow hot and cold. On their day, France is the best team in the world, but they’re a team that can come unstuck.

We asked Alex & Ben if they thought France would win the World Cup, their answers for which can be found below.

Ben, will France win the World Cup?
Ben Smith
Ben Smith

I don’t think they will. France can play some scintillating football, and while they certainly can win the World Cup, their past form suggests that they will not be able to maintain the level of consistency needed to bring home the World Cup for the second time in a row.

Alex, will France win the World Cup?
Alex Goldstein
Alex Goldstein - Editor-in-chief

Oof, that’s tricky. Much like Ben, I think they can, and I almost understand the odds they’ve been given more than Brazil for example. It’s hard to ignore a team consisting of Mbappe, Benzema, and Pogba among others. But I think I side with Ben here. Their past form has just been too inconsistent for me to think that they’ll win the competition in Qatar this year.

Best Odds for France to win the World Cup

Will England win the World Cup?

England’s inclusion as the third most likely to win the World Cup was a bit interesting, and a topic of much debate amongst us here at My Betting Sites. On the one hand, we had Ben, who thought England should be dubbed clear favourites, while Alex thought the likes of Belgium, Spain and even the Netherlands could have claimed the third most likely spot to win instead of England.

So, will England win the World Cup? Most of us don’t think so, Ben does, but below, you can hear from our guys directly.

Alex, will England win the World Cup?
Alex Goldstein
Alex Goldstein - Editor-in-chief

No. Absolutely not. That’s all from me.

Ben, will England win the World Cup?
Ben Smith
Ben Smith

Yes, I think England will win the World Cup. Maybe I’m biased, but if you look through the team, England has the perfect mix of quality and grit to go in and get the job done. I’ve already bet on England to be outright winners, and you’d be wise to do the same.

Best odd for England to win the World Cup

Will Argentina win the World Cup?

All of us here at My Betting Sites had a hard time picturing Argentina winning the World Cup. It’s just not their tournament to win this year. The last time they lifted the title was back in 1986, and while they have some big names to choose from, the team feels like it lacks balance.

Below, you can see what Ben and Alex had to say about whether they thought Argentina would win the World Cup.

Ben, Will Argentina win the World Cup?
Ben Smith
Ben Smith

No, I don’t think they will. While they recently bagged the Copa America, and have put on some good performances in freindlies, I just don’t see it happening. Not this year.

Alex, will Argentina win the World Cup?
Alex Goldstein
Alex Goldstein - Editor-in-chief

While I disagree with Ben on his England decision, I’m with him on this one. Argentina has a good team, capable of going far, but I just don’t see them winning the whole tournament.

Best Odds for Argentina to win the World Cup

Will Spain win the World Cup?

While a couple of people in the team here at My Betting Sites thought Spain could win, when they were asked distinctively if they’d win, they were a lot less quick to react. Spain’s national team isn’t quite at the same level of strength as their 2010 World Cup-winning campaign.

Below, Ben and Alex have their say, and below that, you can check the odds for Spain to win, as they appear on Canada’s leading bookmakers.

Ben, will Spain win the World Cup?
Ben Smith
Ben Smith

Not this year, at least not according to me. I was actually quite surprised to see Spain this far up the list when we were compiling the odds for this article. I would have expected Belgium, or even Portugal higher up (don’t tell Alex I said that). But all in all, of course, Spain can win, but I’d be very surprised if they did.

Alex will Spain win the World Cup?
Alex Goldstein
Alex Goldstein - Editor-in-chief

Spain can do it, but I don’t think they will. They have a couple of younger players coming through the ranks, and I think they could be favourites when the next World Cup rolls around, but I don’t think this is their year.

Best Odds for Spain to win the World Cup

Will the Netherlands win the World Cup?

When you think of who the Netherlands have to call upon for the World Cup, one’s mind can start to wonder. Virgil Van Dijk at the back. Frenkie De Jong in midfield. Memphis Depay, who on his day can be solid, leading the line. The Dutch have a strong spine, but here at My Betting Sites, we don’t think it’s enough. To us, no, the Netherlands will not win the World Cup.

Here’s what Ben and Alex had to say:

Ben, will Netherlands win the World Cup?
Ben Smith
Ben Smith

I don’t think so. Sure they have some big names, and some outstanding quality, there’s just not enough of it for me to say they’ll go on and win.

Alex, will the Netherlands win the World Cup?
Alex Goldstein
Alex Goldstein - Editor-in-chief

Yeah, I’m with Ben on this one. The Netherlands is a bit like Spain in my eyes, with a couple of young guns showing a lot of promise. But overall, I don’t think they’re at the World Cup-winning level yet.

Best odds for the Netherlands to win the World Cup

Will Portugal win the World Cup?

Despite what Alex thinks, everyone else here at My Betting Sites had their doubts about Portugal going all the way. Portugal is in a poll position to be considered a dark horse. With a team brimming with talent, the question here isn’t about quality, but more about if they can band together to make it happen.

The majority view here at My Betting Sites, Portugal won’t win the World Cup, but you can hear it from our self-proclaimed experts here:

Alex, will Portugal win the World Cup?
Alex Goldstein
Alex Goldstein - Editor-in-chief

I think they will. Yes, my grandparents are Portuguese, and yes I’m a huge fan of Cristiano Ronaldo, but despite this, I think Portugal will do it. With all the hype surrounding Brazil and France, not much attention has been given to this Portugal team, so I see them quietly going about their business and going all the way.

Ben, will Portugal win the World Cup?
Ben Smith
Ben Smith

Take it from me, Portugal is not winning the World Cup, England is. All this friendly banter aside, I think Portugal has the legs to go far, but I don’t think they’ll win. They lack the cohesion that can be found elsewhere (ahem England).

Best odds for Portugal to win the World Cup

Will Belgium win the World Cup?

We were surprised to see Belgium so far down the list of favourites to win the World Cup. Belgium is very much a superpower in European football and has some of the best players in the world to call upon when the World Cup kicks off. Belgium certainly can win the World Cup, but none of us here believe that Belgium will. They just don't live up to the hype on the international stage.

Read what Ben and Alex have to say:

Alex, will Belgium win the World Cup?
Alex Goldstein
Alex Goldstein - Editor-in-chief

Nah, I don’t think so. They have the players that are capable of doing damage, but the team lacks balance and coherence, and I feel like they’d come off second best going up against the likes of France and England (don’t tell Ben).

Ben, will Belgium win the World Cup?
Ben Smith
Ben Smith

I don’t think Belgium has what it takes to win the World Cup. Yes, they have De Bruyne, Hazard and Lukaku, but that may be too many stars for their own good. They also lack quality in other key areas of the pitch, so while they have a stacked attack, the rest of the team doesn’t quite compare, leaving the Belgians looking a little lopsided.

Best odds for Belgium to win the World Cup

Will Denmark win the World Cup?

No one here at My Betting Sites thinks that the valiant Danes will go all the way. In our minds, while their team is sound and strong, they just don’t have enough. They lack squad depth, and while they have good players, they’re just not at the level as some other teams that will be going to the World Cup.

You may be tired of hearing from Ben & Alex, so we’ve given them a break this round because, in all honesty, they were in agreement. Denmark won’t win the World Cup.

Best odds for Denmark to win the World Cup

Will Croatia win the World Cup?

The evergreen dark horses. Last World Cup’s finalists. Croatia has been known to defy the odds. In their David vs. Goliath-Esque clash against the French in the World Cup final in 2018, they were defeated, and they will look to make things right this year, by looking to go all the way.

An aging guard, and a tricky group, however, are the first obstacles. Along with a range of teams that are expected to beat them on paper, it’ll be a tall order for the Croatians to go to the final again. With that in mind, the team here at My Betting Sites does not think Croatia will win the World Cup.

Here’s what Alex and Ben had to say:

Alex, will Croatia win the World Cup?
Alex Goldstein
Alex Goldstein - Editor-in-chief

I don’t think they will, no. The Croatians have some great players to call upon, and I feel that that, mixed with brilliant team chemistry is what allowed them to go so far in 2018. The players they had to call upon back then, however, were at their primes, and four years have passed by. I just don’t see it happening.

Ben, will Croatia win the World Cup?
Ben Smith
Ben Smith

I’ll side again with Alex here, I don’t think they’ll win. I don’t think they’ll win the group, which makes me feel like they’ll have a hard time advancing from the round of 16. While I’d like to see Croatia obliterated early on for knocking England out in last year’s World Cup, I don’t see that happening either. I also don’t see them lifting the World Cup, however.

Best Odds for Croatia to win the World Cup

Will Canada win the World Cup?

As much as everyone at My Betting Sites would love to see that, the likelihood of our boys in red bringing home the World Cup is hairline thin if we were being unrealistic, and impossible if we were being realistic. Canada would do well to make it through the groups. To cut it short, no, Canada will not be winning the World Cup in Qatar this year.

Alex, will Canada win the World Cup?
Alex Goldstein
Alex Goldstein - Editor-in-chief

I wish I could say yes, but it’s a resounding no, unfortunately. If Canada makes it through the group stage, I’ll take it as a victory. Canada won’t be winning the World Cup.

Ben, will Canada win the World Cup?
Ben Smith
Ben Smith

No, we won’t be World Cup winners by the end of the tournament. Too many other teams that are simply better, mean that this is a bit of an impossible task for Canada.

Best Odds for Canada to win the World Cup

World Cup Favourites Sumarry

While the books have pegged Brazil as World Cup favourites from the offset, the opinions from our experts are split on who will win this year’s FIFA World Cup in 2022. Ben seems to think it’s going to be England, while Alex feels like Portugal is going to take it. The truth is, right now, no one knows what will transpire in the competition.

As it stands, Brazil are favourites to win the World Cup outright, followed closely by France and England.

What are the odds of England winning the World Cup in 2022?

Bookmakers in Canada have given England odds of 7.50 (Betway, 888Sport & Royal Panda) and 8.00 (LeoVegas). Users stand the chance of winning more money with LeoVegas, and that’s the reason why we recommend them as the book to choose when betting on England as outright winners of the World Cup.

Who has won the most World Cups?

Brazil is the country that has won the most World Cups, with 5 titles to its name. The next is Germany with 4 titles, and finally Italy and Argentina with 2.

How do I bet on the World Cup favourite?

  5. Enter your stake in the bet slip, and confirm your bet

Who are the World Cup contenders?

That’s a layered question. We could list all 32 contenders who will be heading to Qatar in November, but we feel that the real question behind this is which teams can go on to win the World Cup. So we’ll start with them.

The contenders for the World Cup (the teams looking most likely to win), are Brazil, France, England, Argentina, and Spain.

The full list of all 32 competitors going to the World Cup includes:

Can Canada win the World Cup?

As much as all of us here at My Betting Sites Canada would love to see that, we just don’t think that’s possible. We feel that it’s a win in and of itself that Canada has made it to the World Cup. They’ve landed in a tricky group, so if they were to get through the group stage, we’d be happy to see that too.

We do not, however, think that Canada can win the World Cup.

Who will qualify from the World Cup group stage?

While it’s hard at this point to say, here are our top picks for teams to qualify past the groups:

Group A: Netherlands & Senegal

Group B: England & USA

Group C: Argentina & Mexico

Group D: France & Denmark

Group E: Spain & Germany

Group F: Belgium & Croatia

Group G: Brazil & Switzerland

Group H: Portugal & Uruguay

Who will score the most goals at the World Cup?

We think France will be the team that scores the most goals, and that Kylian Mbappe will be the player that scores the most goals. The bookmakers, however, have painted a different picture, and think that Harry Kane will be the player that scores the most goals. World Cup betting sites in Canada have not released which team they think will score the most goals, however.
