Bookmaker Overview

Mason Kelliher
Mason Kelliher - Editor-in-Chief

Bookmaker.com.au was founded in 2011 and quickly became a dominant player. Soon after, the company was acquired by Entain plc which also owns Neds, Ladbrokes, and Betstar. Because of this, Bookmaker has a huge range of betting markets, many features, and lots of payment options and is particularly good for Australian and international racing. The downside is that if you already use one of the other Entain betting sites, you won't find many new things on Bookmaker.com.au. Even so, Bookmaker is a quality bookie with many things to get excited about.

Bookmaker Review

Despite having the most unoriginal name of any Australian betting site, Bookmaker exploded onto the Australian betting scene after its 2012 launch. Just 18 months later, Bookmaker Australia was acquired by Ladbrokes and today is owned by Entain plc which owns Ladbrokes, Neds, and Betstar.

The success of these other brands meant that Entain put a little less effort into Bookmaker and over the years the site has become a little old-fashioned and we reckon that the app and website could use an update.

However, the acquisition also meant that Bookmaker's betting options, features, and odds went from good to great and today they offer one of the most competitive and wide-reaching products in Australia.

Bookmaker offers 200+ betting markets for popular sports like the AFL as well odds for everything from soccer and racing to darts and surfing. Bookmaker's racing product is top-notch and they have every Australian race across all three codes as well as a huge number of international racing markets.

You can also expect to find products like futures bets, players props, special sports markets, Same Game/Race Multis, Cash Out, special racing markets like Early Quaddies and Favourite vs Field, a Protest Payout, Best of the Best odds, Top Fluc odds and Best Tote + SP odds on Bookmaker.

So, overall we like Neds and Ladbrokes better than Bookmaker but the quality of this betting site cannot be denied so if you are so inclined, Bookmaker will definitely give you a great betting experience.

Why we like Bookmaker ✅

  • Bookmaker has tons of bet types and features like Same Race/Game Multis and Cash Out
  • Bookmaker's racing section has runner comments, price fluctuations, and full form guides
  • Bookmaker has competitive odds for all Australian and international racing and for 30+ sports

Why we don't like Bookmaker ❌

  • We would like to see a live chat option on Bookmaker as well as website redesign
  • Bookmaker has the same odds and markets as Neds, Ladbrokes, and Betstar

Bookmaker Rating: 8/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Mason Kelliher - Editor-in-Chief

We review all betting sites in Australia against the same criteria. Here's how bookmaker.com.au stacks up:

  • Betting Variety (10/10) - Thanks to their parent company Entain plc, Bookmaker is amongst the top Australian betting sites when it comes to variety. They offer hundreds of betting options for big leagues like the AFL, NRL, EPL, NBA, and NFL as well as plenty more markets for 30+ sports. Bookmaker also has many live betting and multi-betting opportunities and special sports and racing betting markets like player and team props, league and race futures, and more.
  • Mobile Experience (7/10) - This rating may be a little harsh because Bookmaker has betting apps for Android and iPhone that are fast and packed with markets and features. However, seeing the Neds and Ladbrokes apps and knowing what the Bookmaker apps could be with a re-design and improved navigation makes us a little bit disappointed in the mobile offering.
  • Payment Options (9/10) - Another area where bookmaker.com.au excels is in their payment options. Bookmaker offers many instant deposit options including PayPal, POLi, card, cash, Flexepin, and their Bookmaker Card as well as Bank Transfer/EFT. We'd like to see a few more withdrawal options because Bookmaker only accepts PayPal, Bank Transfer/EFT, and Bookmaker Card withdrawals but these are fast and painless so we don't mind too much.
  • Betting Experience (7/10) - Again, this rating may be a little bit harsh because Bookmaker does offer tons of betting options, competitive odds, and heaps of features but we just think that the site feels a little bit old, there are old pictures like are a little 2010-esque and there is no search bar which means finding a bet can take a few clicks. Despite this, Same Game/Race Multis, Cash Out, a Protest Payout, Best of the Best, and Best Tote + SP odds are all features that we really appreciate.
  • Customer Support (8/10) - With no live chat option, it's hard to give Bookmaker a higher rating. Still, Bookmaker offers 24/7 phone and email support and definitely makes finding their contact information easy. All of the Bookmaker customer service staff members that we chatted to were friendly, helpful, and seemed to know a lot about the Bookmaker betting site so we were pretty impressed here.

Bookmaker Australia Betting Site FAQ

Why is Bookmaker a good betting site?

Even though it's not at the top of our lists, Bookmaker is a good betting site because:

  • Bookmaker has a wide range of betting options - including all Australian races, many international races, and 30+ sports from footy to bull riding
  • Bookmaker has competitive odds - Bookmaker offers Best of the Best and Best Tote + SP odds for racing and has good sports lines & special markets
  • Bookmaker has a lot of features - like Same Game/Race Multis, Cash Out, live betting, a Protest Payout, a Past the Post Payout and a Bookmaker Card
  • Bookmaker has many payment options - including PayPal, POLi, BPAY, Pay ID, card, bank transfer, Flexepin, cash, and even a Bookmaker Mastercard
  • Bookmaker is reliable and trustworthy - since 2012, Bookmaker has been helping Aussies to bet. Bookmaker also uses 2048-bit encryption technology

Part of the reason as to why Bookmaker is such a strong bookie is because it is owned by the same company that owns Neds and Ladbrokes (Entain plc). We reckon that Neds and Ladbrokes are a bit easier to use, have some better features, and because the odds and markets are comparable we recommend using these sites if you only want to create one betting account.

How do you download the Bookmaker app?

You can download the bookmaker.com.au app from the App Store or Google Play Store (depending on whether you have an Apple or Android device).

Simply create a Bookmaker account then head to the relevant store, search for 'bookmaker.com.au', and then select 'Download'.

We recommend creating a Bookmaker betting site account on the website before you download the app. That's because the sign up process is a bit more complicated and hard to do from the Bookmaker app.

How do you deposit and withdraw on Bookmaker?

Bookmaker Australia's deposit and withdrawal options include:

Bookmaker deposit options:

  • Visa (Instant)
  • Mastercard (Instant)
  • POLi (Instant)
  • Flexepin (Instant)
  • Cash In (Instant)

  • EFT/Bank Transfer (1-3 business days)

Bookmaker withdrawal options:

  • PayPal (Instant)
  • Bookmaker Card (Instant)
  • EFT/Bank Transfer (1-3 business days)
What is the Bookmaker withdrawal time?

Bookmaker's withdrawal times range from instant to 3 days (depending on the method that you choose).

You can instantly withdraw from Boomaker with the Bookmaker Card.

PayPal withdrawals on Bookmaker are also processed instantly but it can take a couple of hours or days for your money to actually reach your account.

Bookmaker bank transfer/EFT withdrawals can take anywhere from 1 to 3 business days however they normally only take a day (especially after your first withdrawal).

Is there a Bookmaker sign up bonus?

Unfortunately, we are not allowed to promote bonuses or promotions that Bookmaker may or may not give its players.

You can blame Australian betting regulations for that.

The only way to see if Bookmaker sign up bonuses or promotions exist is by logging into your account.

    Is Bookmaker Australian owned?

    Originally? Yes.

    Today? No.

Bookmaker.com.au was founded in 2011 and launched in 2012 but was bought 18 months later by Ladbrokes. Today, the Bookmaker brand is owned by Entain plc which is the same UK-based betting conglomerate that owns Ladbrokes, Neds, and Betstar in Australia.

    Bookmaker App

The Bookmaker app is a solid choice but you'll find a more intuitive design and more features on a lot of other Australian betting apps.

In saying this, Bookmaker has many payment options which are compatible with mobile which makes getting money into and out of your Bookmaker account fast and easy.

The Bookmaker app also has all the same markets, features, and odds as the Bookmaker betting site which means heaps of options and plenty of value.

Live betting is also pretty easy from the Bookmaker app because there are a range of options and you just have to select the telephone number at the top of the page to call and place your bets quickly.

However, because Bookmaker shares the same odds and markets as other betting apps like Neds, Ladbrokes, and Betstar, we would recommend those bookies for a similar, but even better, betting experience.

    Bookmaker australia app

The bookmaker could definitely use an update that makes the navigation and overall feel more modern and intuitive

    • Many multi opportunties
    • 24/7 sports and racing betting
    • Wide range of options

    • Cash Out & fast payments
    • Exclusive in-app features

    Beookmaker App Cons ❌

    • Looks a little outdated
    • Not super easy to use
    • Some buttons are hard to tap
    • Sections of the app take up a lot of real estate
How to download the Bookmaker App in Australia

Fortunately for Australian punters, the Bookmaker Apple and Android apps are both available in their respective stores - the App Store and Google Play Store.

Before downloading the bookmaker.com.au app we do, however, recommend creating a Bookmaker Australia account first because the sign up process is more complicated from the Bookmaker app than the Bookmaker betting site.

    Bookmaker Android App

The bookmaker.com.au Android app is on the Google Play Store. To download the bookmaker.com.au Android app just:

    • Select the 'Visit' button

    • Open your Android device
    • Go to the Play Store
    • Search 'bookmaker.com.au'
    • Select 'Download'

Bookmaker's app is available from both the App Store and Google Play Store in Australia

    Bookmaker Betting Site - Racing

Bookmaker, as the name might suggest, has a really wide range of horse racing betting options. In fact, you'll find all Australian races across all three codes, plus a whole host of international meets on the Bookmaker betting site.

Bookmaker.com.au offers Same Race Multis, Favourite vs Field, Exotics (including early Quaddies and Doubles), Best Tote + SP, and Best of the Best odds for all the big Australian races and many smaller ones too

Bookmaker also offers racing futures markets for the biggest races every month and year, allowing you to lock in high prices before the final field has been set. For the less research-inclined punters, mystery bets, suggested runners and quick multis are also available.

    Bookmaker com au racing

Bookmaker has Best Tote + SP, Best of the Best and Top Fluc Odds for many of the most popular Australian gallops races

Bookmaker's fixed-odds prices fluctuate and while they are often not as good as PlayUp's or Bluebet's, they sometimes are, and if not they are always competitive.

Like any serious racing bookie, Bookmaker also has a Protest Payout that pays out both horses if there is an upheld protest after the race.

Also know that while form guides, runner comments, and price fluctuations are given for all Australian races, many international markets are missing these extra features.

    Bookmaker Betting Site - Sports

Bookmaker's sports betting site may not be beautiful but it certainly has everything you need as a sports-minded punter.

Bookmaker.com.au offers Cash Out, Same Game Multis, Quick Multis, conventional betting markets, futures, player props, special betting markets, and much more.

In fact, for leagues like the AFL, over 200 betting options are available for every single match with fewer markets being offered the smaller that the event is.

Bookmaker also has competitive odds that sometimes beat the competition (especially for line bets, player props, and special bets), but sometimes don't (as is the case with a variety of other bet types).

    Bookmaker sports betting

As well as normal betting options, Bookmaker's sports betting markets include special bet types like futures, finals bets, medal winners bets, and bets on whether certain players or teams will break records or reach career milestones

Bookmaker's sports betting options include all major Australian, US, and European professional leagues and sports as well as international tournaments and friendlies. You'll also find odds for things like esports, tv shows, elections, bull riding, surfing, snooker, and Gaelic sports on bookmaker.com.au.

Bookmaker Multis can be placed from your betslip after selecting your single bets and Same Game Multis are available for selected events with a 'stacked paper' icon.

Cash Out is also available for selected Bookmaker bet types although you will only get this option after your bets are placed.

    Bookmaker Payments

Despite not being one of our favourite betting sites, Bookmaker.com.au has plenty of payment options which proves that they are a serious player.

Even more impressive is how many of these payment options allow you to make instant deposits and withdrawals (see below).

We could definitely use a few more Bookmaker withdrawal options but with easy and fast methods like PayPal, Bank Transfer and the Bookmaker Card we're more than happy with our choices.

    Bookmaker com au payment methods

Bookmaker offers more payment options than many other Aussie betting sites which is a big positive for us

    • PayPal (Instant)
    • Bookmaker Card (Instant)
    • BPAY (1-3 business days)
    • EFT/Bank Transfer (1-3 business days)

The minimum Bookmaker deposit amount is $10 for most payment methods.

The minimum bet amount on Bookmaker.com.au is $0.50 for internet bets, $5.00 for telephone bets, and $10.00 for live telephone bets.

    Bookmaker Withdrawals

    • Bookmaker Card (Instant)
    • PayPal (Instant)
    • EFT/Bank Transfer (1-3 business days)

Bookmaker withdrawal times vary depending on the payment option that you pick. Bookmaker withdrawals to your Bookmaker Card are instant whereas Bookmaker's PayPal withdrawals are processed instantly but can still take a few hours or days to get to you.

Also, know that while Bookmaker says that their bank transfer withdrawals can take up to 3 days we've found that they often only take 1 or 2 days (especially after your first withdrawal).

      Bookmaker Verification
      Mason Kelliher
      Mason Kelliher - Editor-in-Chief

Firstly, you can join Bookmaker Australia, deposit, and even place bets before your account has been verified.

Meanwhile, Bookmaker will automatically try to verify your account by matching your ID information with government records.

If this automatic process fails (which sometimes happens) then Bookmaker will send you an email with instructions explaining how to manually verify your account.

This usually involves checking that your details are correct and perhaps sending some additional documents to Bookmaker (like a photo of an ID or a proof of address).

If you do not verify your account within 14 days then Bookmaker is required by law to suspend your account (you can still log in but you just can't place bets) until verification is complete.

You will also need to have a verified Bookmaker account before you can make a withdrawal.

      Bookmaker Contact

Bookmaker Australia falls behind a little bit when it comes to its customer service options. We say this mainly because they don't seem to have a live chat option (even though you'll find mentions of live chat in the long, unvisited sections of their website).

Still, with an email address and phone number, there are definitely ways to get in touch with Bookmaker and when we did we found that they were polite and helpful.

If you have a more urgent inquiry we definitely recommend using their phone support line because you won't have to wait very long to get help whereas when you send an email it can take up to 48 hours for Bookmaker to reply.

      Bookmaker Features

Even though we reckon that there are better betting sites than Bookmaker (and ones with more creative names) we are pretty pleased by the range of features available on their betting site.

Some of these features increase the value of your bets, other times they make betting easier and sometimes they give you unique ways to bet. For more information about bookmaker.com.au's best racing and sports betting features open the boxes below!

      Bookmaker Australia Racing Features

      Bookmaker Same Race Multis

Same Race Multis are popular among higher-risk, higher-reward punters. Basically, they allow you to combine single bets from the same race into one larger bet with an increased payout.

Bookmaker's Same Race Multis are available for certain Aussie races and are capped at 4 legs per bet eg. you can bet on 4 different horses to come either 1st, top 2, top 3, or top 4 (as long as you don't have more than one selection for 1st, more than 2 selection for top 2 etc.)

While the high payouts are enticing Same Race Multis are also risky because all of your legs must occur for your bet to win.

      Bookmaker Bet Types

Bookmaker offers all the traditional racing markets like Win/Place, Trifecta, First Four, Quinella, Exacta and Quaddie as well as many other markets like Early Quaddies, Daily Doubles, Running Doubles, Trebles, Big 6s, Mystery Bets and Special bets like Favourite vs Field.

Bookmaker also has Fixed Odds for all races and Top Flucs, Best of the Best, Best Tote or SP and Mid Tote Place Odds for most Australian races.

Bookmaker Racing Form, Flucs & Stats

For all Australian races for all three codes, Bookmaker gives you runner comments and form guides. You'll find price fluctuations for most races too.

Also, expect to see track and weather information and suggested runners.

You won't however, find any speedmaps on Bookmaker.

      Bookmaker Jockey Challenges

From time to time, Bookmaker has Jockey Challenges which allow you to back a Jockey at a meet and if they perform better than other riders (based on finishing positions) then you'll win.

These Jockey Challenges are generally only available on selected weekends for bigger racedays.

Bookmaker Protest & Past the Post Payout

Bookmaker also offers a Protest Payout for all Australian and International horse races (gallops & harness). That means that if your horse wins but is later relegated, or your horse doesn't win but is later promoted to first, you will get paid out as the winner!

Bookmaker's Past the Post Payout guarantee means that all winning dividends across all three Australian racing codes are paid out as soon as the interim dividend is available - so you get your winnings faster.

Bookmaker com au favourite vs field

Bookmaker has favourite vs field odds for many Australian racing markets

      Bookmaker Australia Sports Betting Features

      Bookmaker Same Game Multis

Same Game Multis (where you combine single bets from the same game into one larger multi bet with higher odds and a bigger payout) are available on a range of sports at bookmaker.com.au.

This includes top leagues like the AFL, EPL, NRL, and some US pro leagues. In general, the bigger the sporting event is, the more likely Bookmaker's Same game Mutlis will be available.

Look out for the icon that looks like stacked pieces of paper to know whether Same Game Multis are available.

      Bookmaker Cash Out

Bookmaker's Cash Out function lets you settle bets before the end of a match.

Unfortunately, you can only see which bets are eligible for Cash Out after you have placed them but again you can expect Cash Out options for multis and single bets placed on popular sports matches.

      Bookmaker Odds

In general, Bookmaker has competitive odds for Australian sports like Aussie Rules, rugby, and cricket as well as big international sports like tennis, golf, soccer, American football, baseball, hockey and basketball.

Particularly good are Bookmaker's line odds and their futures markets.

      Bookmaker Markets

Bookmaker offers a range of different bet types for almost every sport that you can think of.

On the high end, Bookmaker has 200+ markets for things like the AFL whereas for sports like surfing or bull riding only a couple of markets may be available.

      Bookmaker Live Betting

Bookmaker's live betting section isn't very beautiful and there are no play-by-play graphics or stats but you'll still find live betting options for everything from soccer and footy to tennis, table tennis, and badminton.

As per Australian betting regulations, Bookmaker can only accept live bets by phone but odds are still available on their website for reference.

      Bookmaker Card

Any punter using bookmaker.com.au can apply for the Bookmaker Mastercard. This card can be used like a regular debit card for online and physical purchases and ATM withdrawals.

The major benefit of getting a Bookmaker Card is that you can use it to deposit and withdraw to your Bookmaker betting site account instantly.

      Bookmaker com au card

The Bookmaker Card allows punters to make instant deposits and withdrawals

How to use the Bookmaker Betting Site

Bookmaker is a safe, secure betting site owned by one of Australia's and the world's largest sports betting providers so you can be sure that you're in good hands should you sign up.

If you do decide to join Bookmaker Australia, here are the steps you'll need to take to place a bet:

      1. Select a 'Visit' button
      2. On Bookmaker, select 'Join Now'
      3. Enter your ID info
      4. Make a deposit
      5. Find a sport/race
      6. Choose your bet type
      7. Enter your bet stake
      8. Place your bet!
      Bookmaker betting site

If you feel like you've seen the Bookmaker betting site before then don't worry you're not crazy - Bookmaker shares the same odds provider and owner as Ladbrokes, Neds and Betstar so the four betting sites are almost identical

When you enter the bookmaker.com.au homepage you'll see a few 2010-esque sports images followed by the next races to jump, and some features of the bookmaker website.

Don't let this put you off.

The quality of Bookmaker Australia becomes evident as soon as you start using the Sports and Racing menus to find a bet.

After selecting 'Racing' from the menu you'll see hundreds of Australian and international races, organised by code, country, and date. When you select a certain meet or race you'll see a variety of fixed odds, exotic and special bets types which can be navigated through by using the menu. For most races, full forms guides, price fluctuations, and runner comments are also available.

If 'Sports' are your thing then the process is pretty similar. Selecting a sport or league will take you to an overview of everything on offer which is segmented by match, or in the case of futures or special bets, by bet type. For each match, you'll see up to 200 different betting options plus Same Game Multi options for the most popular leagues and events.

Your Betslip can be found at the top of the screen by the login/join now buttons and will automatically open when you select a bet type.

Bookmaker also has a Live Betting section for in-play bettors, a Promotions section for existing customers, a How To section for newbies, an Account section for all your password, payment, and personal information, and a Support/FAQ section if you need help.

      Bookmaker same game multi

For many sports and leagues, bookmaker.com.au offers same game multi options - look for the 'stacked paper' icon
