We compare the best bookie for greyhounds
Our goal here is to remove all the fluff and make it easy for you punters to find the best greyhound betting site for your needs.
Let the dog see the rabbit, if you like.
Our experts spend hours every day browsing the UK's top betting sites (and some rubbish ones, too) to check out what markets are available, what odds are being offered, what the promotional terms and conditions are, and lots more.
Sometimes we even win a bet or two (I like trap 2).
The point is, we’ve done all the dog work necessary to find the real pedigree UK betting sites for dog racing.
What to look for when choosing where to place a greyhound bet
There’s no single metric that is the be-all and end-all for deciding if an online greyhound betting site is worth your time.
Yeah, maybe one bookie has a cracking welcome offer but it might not offer live streaming. Or another betting site might have live streaming but not best odds guaranteed.
The best betting sites for greyhound racing win a rosette when judged on most (or all) of the below factors:
- 👍 Range of markets
The most obvious bet to place on a greyhound race is simply: which dog will win?
That’s the absolute bare bones of greyhound betting and every online bookie offering bets on the dogs will have a racecard with single and each way bets for a range of races every day.
However, there’s far more to dog betting than simple straight win. There’s forecasts, trap specials and challenges, accas and multiples, totes, futures and lots more.
The top sportsbooks will have a variety of these different bets available in addition to the core win or each way odds.
- 🧮 Odds
Once you’ve picked your market, the next decision is whether you want to risk your hard earned cash and take the odds on offer.
Bookmakers make money in two ways. They keep the stakes when punters lose bets (obviously), but the second way is often less obvious - bookies factor in a margin (sometimes called a vig or overround) so that they win long term regardless of race outcomes.
This margin is bigger on some events than on others, and it can vary quite significantly from one online bookie to the next. That’s one reason the same dog might be priced shorter at, say, Paddy Power than at Coral.
It’s well worth shopping around before you decide where to place your bet. You could also just read our in-depth reviews of the top bookies where we provide information about the value of the odds being offered (hint: bet365 often offers the best prices).
- 📺 Live streaming
Greyhound racing is high-octane stuff. A quick Google search tells me greyhounds can run at speeds in excess of 40 miles per hour.
That means races are over in a flash and it’s pretty hard to follow what’s going on if you’re not watching the race live.
We can’t all be down at the track to watch the races we place bets on, so the next best thing is being able to watch the live stream without having to leave the bookie’s site!
Fortunately for us, dog racing live streams are widely available at UK online bookmakers.
- 🎁 Sign up bonus
Sign up bonuses are the mechanical hare that bookmakers use to attract new customers to their products.
They generally aren’t specific to greyhound betting but the majority of bonuses on offer can be used on greyhound bets.
The sign up bonus is probably the best bonus offer that you’ll get as a punter so it’s well worth your time finding the best possible one.
So, what makes a good sign up bonus? Well, these are a few of the factors we look out for:
- Total value
- Minimum deposit
- Wagering limit
- Expiry time
- Qualifying deposit methods
- Minimum qualifying bet odds
- 🎉 Offers and promotions
Aside from the odds they offer and the availability of features like live streaming, the offers and promotions run by greyhound betting sites are a key differentiator.
These can be split into two broad categories: regular and event-specific.
Regular offers include things like best odds guaranteed (where the bookie offers you the SP if it’s better than the odds you got when you placed your bet), money back if 2nd to fav (you’ll get a refund or free bet if your dog loses to the favourite) and odds boosts.
Event-specific offers are advertised around major fixtures and often present more high-value opportunities.
You can look out for greyhound event promotions on My Betting Sites as we post the best ones as and when we find out about them!
- 🤌 Design/UX
Even if it might not seem like the most important factor ever, UX could be the difference between you choosing one greyhound betting site over another.
After all, even if a site offers nice odds on a range of markets and has good promotions, that’s all worthless if the design of the site is poor and you can’t navigate your way to place different bets without a load of hassle.
The best UXs don’t just make it easy to place bets, they also make it easy to access account information, make withdrawals and to get in touch with customer support
- 📱 Mobile
More than half of UK punters use their mobile device to place bets. That means a decent mobile platform - ideally dedicated mobile apps for both Android and iOS - is pretty important for any top online greyhound bookie.
The same thoughts about Design and UX apply for the mobile experience, too (in fact, it’s almost more important to have a slick customer experience on the small screen).
Note that you shouldn’t ever need to pay to download a betting app. Our advice would be to stick with apps that you can find on the official App Store (for iOS) or Play Store (for Android)
- 💳 Payment methods
Being able to offer a variety of different payment methods is becoming increasingly important for UK online bookmakers.
It’s not really enough these days to only offer deposits and withdrawals via Visa/Mastercard debits cards. Punters want online services to be convenient for them and bookies are no different.
In addition to debit cards, payment methods we like to see include e-wallets like PayPal, Neteller and Skrill as well as prepaid cards and pay-by-phone options like Boku.
- 💬 Customer support
If you think about it, you should never need to use customer support at an online bookie. Everything should be clear and simple and there shouldn’t ever be any issues.
Life isn’t generally so simple, though. There will likely come a time when you need to ask customer support for help - for example if you aren’t sure why a bet isn’t being paid out as a winner or if you want to check the rules for a promotion.
In such situations, you’ll want top notch support with customer service reps that get back to you quickly.
In our experience, live web chat is the most effective way to solve your issues, but other channels like email, phone and even social media are also welcome.
Greyhound betting offers
Bookies look to spice up every greyhound racing meet with a slew of special betting offers and bonuses.
Some of these are regular promotions, others are specific to certain major events.
Online bookmakers can really enhance their greyhound betting product with a good selection of offers.
Bookies with plenty of top greyhound offers are the dogs boll… er, bee’s knees, whereas those that don’t have many great deals are generally a bit of a dog’s dinner overall.
Greyhound best odds guaranteed
Best odds guaranteed is a common promotion for horse racing punters to utilize, but it's also a really handy deal for bettors backing dogs.
Odds for a certain dog to win a race don’t stay static, they move up and down - often quite dramatically - in the hours and minutes before the traps are opened.
Best odds guaranteed means that you’ll get paid out at the starting price (SP) or the price that you took when you placed the bet - whichever is higher.
If a bookie offers best odds guaranteed on greyhounds then, in our experience, that’s a pretty good indication of overall quality.
Betfred greyhounds best odds guaranteed
Betfred are one of the big name bookies offering best odds guaranteed on all available UK & Irish greyhound racing.
Best odds guaranteed is just one of several greyhound betting offers at Betfred - we reckon it’s one of the top UK online bookmakers for betting on dogs.
New customers only. Register with BETFRED50. Deposit £10+ via Debit Card and place first bet £10+ at Evens (2.0)+ on Sports within 7 days to get 3 x £10 in Sports Free Bets & 2 x £10 in Acca Free Bets within 10 hours of settlement. 7-day expiry. Eligibility & payment exclusions apply. T&Cs apply
Greyhound free bets
Free bets are a fans’ favourite across all sports, and greyhound punters are no different.
There are plenty of different ways to bag yourself a free bet to use on greyhounds, including:
- ‘Bet Get’ offers
- Money back as a free bet if 2nd to fav
- Acca insurance
- Loyalty bonus
- Big odds winner offers
Paddy Power greyhounds
Paddy Power is one of the first operators we think of when someone mentions ‘free bets’.
Their Rewards Club is a great source of free bets, as is their sign up offer for those who are just getting started.
Live streaming and excellent dedicated mobile apps are just two of the many more reasons why Paddy Power is a top destination for greyhound betting.
New Customer offer YSKARZ. Place a min £5 bet on the sportsbook at odds of min EVS (2.0) and get £20 in free bets. Free bet rewards valid for 30 days. Only deposits via Debit Cards will qualify for this offer. T&Cs apply. Please Gamble Responsibly Paddy's Rewards Club: Get a £10 free bet when you place 5x bets of £10+. T&Cs apply.
Greyhound extra places
Just like with horse racing, you can get your greyhound each way bets paid out on extra places.
Securing the value in nailing extra places promotions could form part of a winning greyhound betting strategy.
Some bookies regularly one-up the others by offering one or more extra places on races as standard, while others will promote several extra places as a special offer on a specific big event.
Boylesports greyhounds
Boylesports is something of an industry leader when it comes to extra places offers.
It’s probably best known for offering a load of extra places in big Golf tournaments, but it's also no stranger to similarly enticing greyhounds offers.
New UK customers (Excluding NI) only. £40 in FREE Bets (FB) as £30 in sports bets & a £10 casino bonus (CB). Min Deposit £10. Min stake £10. Greyhound live streaming
Greyhound racing is, of course, best experienced at the track. However, one of the things that makes it so attractive to punters is that there are races on pretty much all day, every day.
As much as we’d like to be, we can’t be at the track all day, every day.
Fortunately, there are cameras recording the action live at the tracks and there are bookies that integrate those live pictures into their online betting products so we can watch the dogs without even having to leave our selected betting site or app.
Most bookies that offer this service cover UK & Irish greyhound racing, but in some cases you’ll be able to watch action from further afield as well.
Bet365 greyhounds
Bet365 is a first-rate online bookmaker on so many metrics - odds, variety of markets, in play betting and much more.
If a race is covered by BAGS, SIS, RPGTV or ATR, you’ll be able to watch it live on bet365. That covers action from the UK, US, Australia and Mexico.
Min deposit requirement. Free Bets are paid as Bet Credits and are available for use upon settlement of qualifying bets. Min odds, bet and payment method exclusions apply. Returns exclude Bet Credits stake. Registration required. T&Cs, time limits and exclusions apply.
Virtual greyhounds
Not as good as the real thing, in our opinion, but plenty of operators host impressive virtual racing products on their sportsbook sites.
A random number generator provides the result and there are 3D-animated greyhounds and slick graphics available for the ultimate arcade experience.
You certainly won’t make your millions in virtual greyhounds, but it’s a bit of fun (which is what betting should be).
Coral greyhounds
Coral is a classic British bookie and has unsurprisingly been a top destination for dog racing betting for decades.
Coral's real-life greyhound racing offering is extensive, and its virtual product is a laugh, too.
You’ll be able to stake on win/each way, forecast and tricast markets at venerated tracks including virtual tracks including Barking Hall and Houndsford Park.

Greyhound bets explained
There's a lot more to greyhound racing than picking a winning dog in a single race.
A variety of greyhound wagers can be placed at most top online bookies, some of which remain live for numerous races and others that can bank a profit in double quick time. We'll explain a few popular bet types below:
- 🐕 Single/each way
Single and each way bets are the most straightforward types of greyhound bet.
With single bets, you are simply betting on a specific dog to win the race.
With each way, you’re backing a dog to either win or place.
- 🐕 Trap challenge
Trap challenge bets are interesting as you aren’t backing specific dogs per se. Instead, you’re betting on which of the traps (where dogs are released from at the start of the race) will win the most races.
Traps are usually numbered one to six, with trap one on the inside and trap six on the outside.
Trap challenge bets generally cover races at a single meet, but are sometimes extended to cover races at multiple events.
Ladbrokes greyhounds
Ladbrokes is a big-name bookie with a big-hitting greyhound betting product.
It offers trap challenge bets as well as best odds guaranteed, a wide selection of greyhound futures plus plenty of specials.
18+ New UK+ROI Customers only. Certain deposit methods & bet types excl. Min first £5 bet within 14 days of account reg at min odds 1/2 to get 5x £5 free bets. Free bets available to use on selected sportsbook markets only. Free bets valid for 7 days, stake not returned. Restrictions + T&Cs apply
- 🐕 Greyhound forecast bets
There are plenty of different forecast type bets, including:
- Straight forecast: Predict the dogs to come first and second, in that order.
- Combination forecast: Predict the dogs to come first and second in any order. This requires multiple stakes to cover all permutations.
- Tricast: Predict the dogs to come first, second and third, in that order.
- Combination tricast: Predict the dogs to come first, second and third in any order. This requires multiple stakes to cover all permutations.
- Forecast double: Two separate forecast bets, one in each race. This way, your bet can ride for longer than a single race.
- 🐕 Greyhound accas and multiples
As with footy punters, multiples and accas are popular among greyhound bettors.
Doubles, trebles, four-folds and up are regularly placed covering races across a single meet or across a day’s racing at several tracks.
Permutations that offer some insurance for near misses, like Trixies, Patents, Yankees and Lucky 15s are also widely offered.
- 🐕 Greyhound tote
A tote, or pools bet is a type of parimutuel bet. That means players place stakes into a pool and the winner takes home that pool rather than being paid out at odds offered by the bookmaker.
Pools bets typically require the player to pick the winners of multiple races (typically five or more across a race day or fixture).
If more than one player correctly picks all winners, the prize pool is shared between them.
- 🐕 Greyhound trading
If you fancy something a little bit different, head to a betting exchange and trade greyhound prices just like you would trade commodities or stocks on an exchange!
Trading on the exchange can be very lucrative if you manage your positions sensibly and put the hard work into training yourself to recognise patterns in price movements in the build up to races.
You can also use an exchange to place greyhound bets in the same fashion as at a sportsbook. The difference is that other punters offer the bets and the exchange takes a commission on winnings (rather than the bookmaker making its money by factoring vig into the price it offers).
Betfair greyhounds
Betfair is undoubtedly the best exchange betting site for UK punters.
It’s probably the only online betting exchange that currently has enough liquidity to make trading greyhound races worth your time.
Betfair also has a smashing sportsbook with all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a major UK facing brand - live streaming, cash out, loads of promos, and more.
Place a min £10 bet on Sportsbook on odds of min EVS (2.0), get £50 in Free Bet Builders, Accumulators or multiples to use on any sport. Rewards valid for 30 days. Only deposits via cards or Apple Pay will qualify. T&Cs apply. Please Gamble Responsibly.
⚠️Dog racing betting sites you should avoid⚠️
We’re in the business of reviewing and recommending the greyhound betting sites we think are the best in the market.
However, we think it’s also important to let you know the sorts of sites you should avoid spending your hard earned money at.
The most clear indicator of a poor quality site is a lack of information about its license to operate. If you can’t find this information, don’t provide personal details or deposit money.
My Betting Sites only features betting sites properly licensed to operate in the UK, so stick with us if you want to avoid the cowboys.
Even licensed sites can be a waste of time, though. If you see more than two or three of the following when find a bookie to place your greyhound bets, we’d suggest shopping round to find somewhere better:
- Lack of live streaming
- No live customer support
- Lack of payment options
- Poor value sign up bonus
- No best odds guaranteed
- Clunky UX
- Poor mobile optimisation
