Hurricanes Remain Favourites In Connor Hellebuyck Next Team Odds
Connor Hellebuyck's Next Team Odds
Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck's next team remains uncertain following a falling out in the offseason, leading to Hellebuyck requesting the team trade him away from the organization.
Hellebuyck publicly confirmed his desire to leave Winnipeg on August 27, confirming that he had privately requested a trade several months earlier. Hellebuyck explained that moving on would be the best decision for himself and his family, bringing an end to months of speculation by fans and the media.
To make the situation even more dire, Hellebuyck failed to report to the Jets' training camp in September, prompting the Jets to suspend him. Despite the ongoing dispute, general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff has maintained that the door remains open for Hellebuyck to return if a suitable trade cannot be arranged.
However, finding a new destination has been seemingly difficult given his contract. Hellebuyck has five seasons remaining on his contract, carrying an annual cap of $8.5 million, in addition to a full no-movement clause that gives him significant control over potential trades.
With the season already underway, Hellebuyck's next destination has become a popular topic on online markets. The Carolina Hurricanes currently lead the odds at 31%, followed by the San Jose Sharks at 22% and New York Rangers at 21%.

Hellebuyck To The Hurricanes Odds
The Carolina Hurricanes are the leading candidate to acquire Hellebuyck, with online markets giving them a 31% chance of landing the Jet's goaltender.
Although the Carolina Hurricanes are returning as the defending Stanley Cup champions, the departure of their goaltender Frederik Andersen during the offseason has left the Hurricanes with a relatively inexperienced goaltending tandem of Pyotr Kochetkov and Brandon Bussi.
Both Kochetkov and Bussi have shown promising starts, but neither of them offers the same level of experience Hellebuyck could provide. Hellebuyck, who won the Hart Trophy and three Vezina Trophy, would be a solid boost of confidence for the Hurricane's defense.
The Hurricanes have also been linked to trade discussions involving Hellebuyck, making this much more than just speculation from online market movements. Ultimately, taking on his $8.5 million annual cap hit would be a big investment for the team, especially alongside the other long term contracts already on Carolina's roster.
Hellebuyck To The Sharks Odds
The San Jose Sharks are the second favourites in the Hellebuyck next team odds, currently sitting at 22%.
San Jose continues their multi-season efforts of rebuilding its roster, currently around a promising group of young players, led by Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith. While the team has made solid progress, goaltending remains one of their weaker positions.
At the moment, the Sharks have Yaroslav Askarov and Alex Nedeljkovic as their primary goaltenders. Askarov is considered a part of the franchise's rebuilding plans, although he has yet to fully prove himself as the only option worth considering.
However, acquiring Hellebuyck would would be a major shift in San Jose's rebuilding strategy. Rather than developing younger talent, the Sharks would be investing in a veteran goaltender to accelerate their return to playoff contention.
Hellebuyck is already 33 years old and remains under contract through the 2030–31 season. Undertaking his contract would be a significant investment for the team and would likely limit it's trade options in the future.
There has also been a lot less reporting connecting the Sharks to Hellebuyck than some of the other potential destinations, hinting that their position in the current odds appears to be driven more by speculation.
Hellebuyck To The Rangers Odds
Lastly, the New York Rangers are another potential destination for Hellebuyck, with markets placing their chances at 21%. However, unlike Carolina and San Jose, New York's interest is even more relevant following an injury to its starting goaltender, Igor Shesterkin.
Shesterkin recently suffered a serious lower body injury against the Capitals earlier this month. Unfortunately for Rangers, the team confirmed that he would miss the remainder of the season, leaving the organization without one of its most important players.
Even more so, the situation is complicated further by an injury to their backup Joonas Korpisalo, who is also expected to miss several weeks. With both their experienced goaltenders out, New York currently relies on the 24-year-old Dylan Garand as a temporary starter.
For a Rangers team still hoping to compete this year, acquiring Hellebuyck would provide immediate relief to its goaltending issue. However, although this would fix one problem for the team, it would impose heavy financial constraints moving forward.
Shesterkin will remain under a long term contract worth $11.5 million annually, forcing New York to consider the financial implications of carrying two annual goaltender contracts nearing $20 million.
Nevertheless, Shesterkin's season-ending injury has created a new reason for New York to consider a major goaltending acquisition, making the Rangers one of the more interesting teams to watch as Hellebuyck's situation continues to unfold.
