GTA 6 set to release in November - Market believes it will win game of the year
Grand Theft Auto 6 To Release Later This Year
The highly anticipated next entry from Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto 6, is set to release November 19, 2026. After thirteen years since GTA 5, it's easy to understand why so many fans are eager to explore what the new game has to offer.
Rockstar Games has already revealed several major details for the new game, including a new map, Leonida, home to a modernized Vice City that is expected to be substantially bigger than GTA 5's map. As well as the story, which will follow Lucia and Jason, a Bonnie and Clyde inspired duo, with players able to experience the storyline through both characters.
Will GTA 6 Win Game of the Year?
The Game Awards, which will take place on December 10, will be voting on a GTA title for the very first time.
GTA 6 will have some serious competition with popular titles releasing in 2026, such as Crimson Desert, Resident Evil Requiem, and Marvel's Wolverine. Each of which have convincing arguments for being game of the year.
On top of that, GTA 6 is set to release close to the cut off date for being eligible for voting in this year's Game Awards. This will give the game only 3 three weeks to convince the voting committee to consider GTA for game of the year.
With such a small window of time to make its case, release issues could be problematic. Expectations are extremely high after multiple delays and more than a decade of anticipation. If GTA 6 launches with technical issues, missing features, or the type of backlash often aimed at buggy AAA releases, its Game of the Year chances could quickly become complicated.
Despite these concerns, the Grand Theft Auto franchise has been an iconic gaming title ever since its San Andreas release back in 2004. It has retained a dedicated following from gamers around the world and will likely become one of the highest grossing videogames to date.
Current markets reflect that confidence. Game of the Year markets gives GTA 6 a 64% chance, placing it well ahead of other contenders. That doesn't make it a guaranteed winner, but it does show that early market odds expect Rockstar to meet the massive expectations surrounding their new release.
