Arsenal Agrees To A £75 Million Deal To Acquire Bruno Guimarães

Arsenal have reportedly agreed a £75 million deal to sign Newcastle captain Bruno Guimarães, strengthening their squad after winning the Premier League for the first time in 22 years.

Manager Mikel Arteta has made it clear that Arsenal must remain ambitious if they are to build on last season’s success, and the move for Bruno appears to reflect the club’s desire to create the strongest midfield in the league.

The Brazilian brings extensive Premier League experience and has already demonstrated that he can perform at the highest level. His durability may also be particularly valuable to an Arsenal side that has been disrupted by injuries in recent seasons. Since joining Newcastle in 2022, Bruno has missed only 16 matches.

He also offers a significant attacking threat from midfield. Bruno scored nine goals for Newcastle last season before recording five assists in five starts at this year’s World Cup.

Arsenal Returns As Premier League Favourites

With Manchester City and Liverpool also entering the new season as serious contenders, Arsenal will need to prove they have what it takes to defend their Premier League title.

Canadian betting sites such as Bet365 currently list Arsenal as the favourites to win the league. At odds of +150, the defending champions have an implied probability of 40%.

Manchester City are their closest challengers, with an implied probability of 26.7%, while Liverpool sit third in the market at 16.7%.

Arsenal+150 (40.1%)
Manchester City+275 (26.7%)
Liverpool+500 (16.7%)
Manchester United+650 (13.3%)
Chelsea+800 (11.1%)
Tottenham+2000 (4.8%)
Aston Villa+3300 (2.9%)
Newcastle+15000 (0.7%)

Manchester City As The Team To Beat

Manchester City are viewed as the biggest threat to Arsenal’s hopes of retaining the Premier League title.

Last season, City briefly put themselves in position to take control of the race before falling short, showing how narrow the gap remains between the two clubs.

City have also added to their midfield this offseason by signing Elliot Anderson. With more than 100 Premier League appearances, Anderson adds further experience and quality to an already elite squad.

The club would likely be priced even more favourably were it not for Pep Guardiola’s departure. However, with players such as Erling Haaland and Phil Foden still leading the attack, new manager Enzo Maresca should have more than enough talent to mount another serious title challenge.
