Reigning Champion Roughriders target repeat Grey Cup - Market Opens with Alouettes ahead
Montreal Alouettes Lead 2026 Grey Cup Odds
The Grey Cup winning odds for the 2026 CFL season are setting in. Which team will advance from the regular season to the Grey Cup Finals and win the trophy?
Across top betting sites, like BetVictor, the Montreal Alouettes are the current favorites to win the 2026 Grey Cup. BetVictor currently has them listed with odds of +300, giving an implied probability of 25%.
Other teams high on the list are the British Columbia Lions (21.1%) and the Saskatchewan Roughriders (14.3%).
Why The Roughriders Sit Behind Montreal and BC
Despite coming off a 25-17 win over the Alouettes last year, the Roughriders enter the 2026 futures market behind Montreal and BC.
The offseason saw the front office focusing on retaining the core of last year's offense, but a few key departures has created uncertainty for the team. Free agency led to key defensive players signing to different teams, like linebacker A.J. Allen and pass rusher Malik Carney, as well as offensive losses in Dohnte Meyers and Joe Robustelli.
There's also a bit of concern around the backup QB position for the Roughriders. Trevor Harris is returning this season at age 40 and most outlooks are questioning if he can remain healthy for the 2026 season. With last year's backup QB, Jake Maier, leaving in free agency, the current backup depth leaves a lot to be desired. If Harris misses extended time, Saskatchewan's case becomes far less convincing, especially with Jack Coan as the current backup.
This uncertainty is a major factor in the current Roughriders odds for the Grey Cup. Will the team defend their title for a repeat championship win or fall short due to roster changes?
BC Lions Close Behind in Grey Cup Odds
The BC Lions are also ahead of the Roughriders coming into the 2026 season, despite losing to Saskatchewan in last year's West Final. Most outlooks for the Lions are strong ahead of the season opener, though their roster is not without flaws.
Their biggest strength remains with Nathan Rourke, coming back from an outstanding performance where he threw for 5290 yards and 31 touchdowns. With Rourke leading the offense, the Lions finished first in points, touchdowns and total production. However, there were also some setbacks, with Rourke throwing for 16 interceptions and tying Zach Collaros for the most interceptions in the regular season. If he can improve on his efficiency, the BC Lions will continue as one of the most dangerous offenses in the CFL.
The main reason the BC Lions struggled last season was due to defensive inconsistency, allowing the third-most points in the CFL. With the additions of a new linebacker Darnell Sankey and defensive lineman Casey Sayles, the outlook on the defence has steadily improved. If the defence can better match the Lion's offensive output this year, their case as a serious Grey Cup contender is well justified.
