Next James Bond Actor Odds - Market Shifts Towards Jack Lowden

Jack Lowden is an unsurprising candidate to become the next James Bond. Since 2022, he has starred as MI5 agent River Cartwright in Slow Horses, a popular thriller series now in its sixth season.

Not many actors can come into the role with British intelligence acting experience. His background as a serious dramatic actor could also work in his favour, particularly if the studio wants someone with greater range than candidates known primarily for action roles.

Lowden has also appeared in major productions including Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, Mary Queen of Scots and War & Peace, giving him experience across both blockbusters and large scale productions.

Recent industry rumours have also come out concerning Lowden. Earlier this week, Richard Osman said Lowden’s name had been put to him as someone being seriously considered for the role. Although it doesn't confirm any preference from Amazon MGM's side, it does add to the growing speculation surrounding Lowden as a frontrunner.

Casting director Nina Gold has also indicated that traditional acting experience will be prioritized over simply choosing the biggest available star. This preference could suit Lowden particularly well, given his classical training at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and his extensive experience across television, film and theatre.

Despite the recent shift in the odds favouring Jack Lowden, he is far from the only actor being considered as a potential successor to Daniel Craig.

Reporting around the casting process has repeatedly linked Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi and Aaron Taylor-Johnson for the role. Which is also highlighted on prediction markets as the other leading candidates.

When auditions for the next James Bond began, Variety listed all three as actors who had been widely considered as potential candidates, while Lowden was not named as taking part in the auditions at the time.

Callum Turner has been one of the most consistent names in the race and has regularly led betting and prediction markets. Like Lowden, he has experience across major movie and television productions, including Fantastic Beasts, Masters of the Air and The Boys in the Boat.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has also been associated with Bond for several years, with previous reports suggesting he had met with franchise decision makers. 

Meanwhile, Jacob Elordi represents a younger option and has become a much bigger name following roles in Euphoria, Saltburn and Priscilla.

With Amazon MGM yet to confirm its preferences, the role continues to remain open. Lowden's recent odds shift make him one of the more interesting names to look out for, but Turner, Taylor-Johnson and Elordi should still be considered moving forward.
