Sportsbet Overview
Sportsbet is Australia's favourite online betting site but many players don't realise that it is also one of the most dishonest. In the industry, Sportsbet is well-known as the bookie that restricts the most winning players. While it is true that Sportsbet does have a lot of features and options, we would definitely recommend avoiding Sportsbet for this reason. Similar, more honest alternatives with much more care for their customers include Ladbrokes, Neds, and PlayUp.

Sportsbet Review
From the outset, it's important to understand that Sportsbet does not advertise a sign-up bonus because this practice has been outlawed since 2019 Australian betting regulations came into effect.
Now that we have cleared that up let's talk Sportsbet.
Sportsbet is the biggest online betting site in Australia and one of New Zealand's most-used international bookmakers with over 1.25 million customers.
With tons of local sports and racing odds and a wealth of betting features, it's easy to see why. The Sportsbet site is also easy to use, full of expert racing tips, and how-to guides. With heaps of free live streaming options for Kiwis, Sportsbet might seem like a great betting site - but that's not the case.
Sportsbet restricts almost all winning players, often without reason (excpet that they're bad for business)
Sportsbet is also very disliked among betting operators for their 2020 lawsuit against sportsbetting.com.au (now boombet.com.au).
With heaps of other Australian-based alternatives (like Ladbrokes, Neds, and PlayUp) with similar features (like cash out and same game multis), all the same betting options, more competitive odds, and much more care for their players, we think Sportsbet should be avoided at all costs.
Why we like Sportsbet NZ ✅
- Features like same race/game multis & cash out
- Top horse racing site with tips and all NZ races
- Many New Zealand and Australian betting markets
What we don’t like ❌
- Quickly restricts winning players
- There is no sign-up bonus for Kiwis
- Withdrawal methods for NZ bettors are limited
Sportsbet is Australia's biggest corporate betting site and that means we have a much more comprehensive review on the Australian version of My Betting Sites - select the button below to read our Sportsbet Australia review (it's the same site)!
Sportsbet Sign-Up Offer
Sportsbet NZ Sign-Up Bonus
As mentioned, Sportsbet is not allowed to advertise a sign-up bonus because of Australian betting regulations. To see Sportsbet bonuses and promotions you'll need to be logged into your account.
It sucks that Sportsbet doesn't advertise sign up bonuses but there are a bunch of other great NZ betting sites with welcome offers.
We also reviewed these bookies higher than Sportbet because they generally have better odds, more bonuses, better apps and a wider range of markets.
Sportsbet FAQ
On May 26, 2019, a new Australian law came into effect that banned betting sites from advertising any sign-up offers to new Australian customers. While this shouldn't have affected Kiwis, Sportbet only has one website at Sportsbet.com.au and so all of its sign-up bonus advertisements were axed.
If you are already a Sportsbet customer then you'll find your Sportsbet bonuses and promotions in the 'Specials' section when you are logged in.
Yes! In fact, Sportsbet is only available in New Zealand and Australia and it only accepts NZD and AUD. If you want to bet in New Zealand dollars then it is important that you choose NZD's when you sign-up with Sportsbet as your currency cannot be changed later.
Unfortunately not. The Sportsbet app is not on the NZ App Store or Google Play store but if you change your location to Australia in either store you'll see that it's available.
If you do jump through these hoops to get the Sportsbet app know that it works great, is easy to use and also great for watching free NZ and Australian live horse races and betting on the go.

Yes. Sportsbet is Australia's most popular online betting website with over 1.25 million customers. It has been trusted by Kiwis and Aussies alike for over 20 years and has a betting license in the Northern Territory of Australia.
The Australian betting market is also heavily regulated so you can be sure that Sportsbet is a reliable betting company.
No. While both are popular betting institutions in Australia, Sportsbet and TAB's are different. Sportsbet is a betting organization that is headquartered in Melbourne whereas TAB's exist throughout New Zealand and Australia.
TAB NZ is NZ's monopoly on-shore betting agency and is owned by the New Zealand Government. TAB's in Australia have largely been privatised and are run as semi-independent betting agencies that vary state-by-state.
Sportsbet Payment Methods
Sportsbet offers NZ bettors all the payment options that they need, but maybe not all the payment options that they want.
Thankfully, all deposits and withdrawals on Sportsbet are in New Zealand dollars. However, when signing up you must select NZD as your currency as this cannot be changed later.

Before Withdrawing from Sportsbet you must first verify your identity. Sportsbet will try to automatically verify your identity based on the information you provide upon signing-up however we have found that this usually can't be done for New Zealanders.
