A New Tool for Opting Out of Online Gambling

As of May 14th, Ontarians have a new responsible gambling tool, BetGuard, provided by iGaming Ontario. The tool allows users to self-exclude from all regulated online gaming platforms in Ontario, including OLG, through one online portal.

Before Betguard, users had to access individual self-exclusion programs across various betting sites in Ontario. This new centralized self-exclusion tool makes it even easier than ever before for those in Ontario to opt-out of all regulated iGaming in one place.

Users who self-exclude through BetGuard will be prevented from accessing their existing accounts, creating new accounts, or receiving any forms of marketing from any of the regulated operators in Ontario.

BetGuard is free of charge and is available in both English and French.

How To Access BetGuard

BetGuard is easy to access, with Ontario-licensed sites required to provide a direct link to the tool. The process takes less than five minutes and can be completed in just four simple steps.

1
Visit BetGuard.ca

Visit BetGuard either by going straight to the website or by clicking on the BetGuard logo found on every Ontario licensed betting site.

2
Create Your Account

Account creation is easy to set up and takes less than 5 minutes. BetGuard ensures that the process is completely secure.

3
Confirm Your Identity

BetGuard requires new accounts to confirm identity with one valid government ID photo. Users can verify identity in seconds with facial recognition. This is a one-time process.

4
Select How Long You Want To Opt Out

Users will then be asked to select their opt-out term. Choosing between:

  • 6 Months
  • 1 Year
  • 5 Years
  • A custom term

What Happens Once I Opt Out?

Once self-excluded, users can track their status through their BetGuard account at anytime, with the option to renew or extend the term they selected

Any outstanding bets on Ontario-licensed betting sites will be canceled within 24 hours. For unused funds in your player wallet, operators will either return them automatically or upon your request, depending on different operator processes.

Once the self-exclusion term ends, users will need to either renew or extend their status, or remove themselves from BetGuard to regain access to online gambling platforms. If no action is taken, BetGuard will keep users self-excluded for seven years after the original term has ended.
