Matchbook has officially completed the acquisition of Irish gambling company Betdaq, which will see Betdaq close for good on 4th November and the two long-established betting exchange platforms merge into one.

Confirmation of the agreement came on 14th October, with Betdaq to cease operating as of today (21st October). The site will display a closure notice and will be unavailable from 5th November 2026.

Here, we break down the takeover in some more detail and explain what it means for Irish users of both brands.

Why is Betdaq closing?

Matchbook has bought Betdaq. As a result, Betdaq will become part of Matchbook, and Betdaq will cease to exist.

Betdaq to close after Matchbook acquires irish brand

Why have Matchbook bought Betdaq?

The takeover of its one-time competitor consolidates Matchbook’s position in the betting exchange market, currently led by Betfair and Smarkets.

Following the acquisition, Matchbook expects users to benefit from a deeper pool of liquidity (i.e more traders & more money on both sides of the market) and better prices overall.

What happens to users with Betdaq accounts?

Existing Betdaq customers can place bets on available Betdaq markets until 21st October and can access their accounts, view account information and withdraw outstanding monies until 4th November.

From 5th November, the website will be closed, and customers will be unable to sign in to their account.

However, it will still be possible to contact Betdaq support (helpdesk@betdaq.com) with any outstanding balance queries thereafter.

Timeline of Key Dates for Betdaq Customers

  • 21st October 2026: Betdaq to stop accepting new bets
  • 22nd October - 4th November 2026: Customers should process withdrawals and receive all remaining funds from their accounts.
  • 5th November 2026: Betdaq.com will no longer be accessible; logging in to Betdaq accounts will no longer be possible.

Can I move my Betdaq account over to Matchbook?

No. Betdaq accounts cannot be transferred to Matchbook; the acquisition of Betdaq did not include customer accounts or the customer database. Users must therefore either create a new account with Matchbook or seek an alternative betting exchange platform.

How do I sign up with Matchbook?

Betdaq customers can create a new Matchbook account today. Setting up an account takes just a few minutes, and to welcome new players to the Matchbook family, new customers get zero commission on their first 110 days of betting - just use bonus code MATCHBOOK110 to activate the offer.
