The Difference Between Registration & iGaming Ontario Approval

Before a betting site can launch in Ontario, it must complete registration through the AGCO and attain a commercial agreement through iGaming Ontario.

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is the province’s gambling regulator. Registration with the AGCO confirms that an operator has met Ontario's regulatory requirements and is eligible to participate in the private iGaming market.

iGaming Ontario handles the commercial side of the market. After registering with the AGCO, operators must also reach a commercial agreement with iGaming Ontario before they can begin accepting players in Ontario.

AGCO registration means a sportsbook has successfully cleared the regulatory process, while an agreement with iGaming Ontario is what allows it to actually go live in the province.
